If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. One thing I forgot to inquire about at the dealer is the availability of custom-fit rubber floor mats. As a northerner, I generally yank the fabric floor mats and run most of the year with Weather Techs or something equivalent, but I suspect that Genesis is just too new for Hyundai to offer a customized set of mats (hell, they're struggling just to get the cars into the showrooms!).

I suppose I could use a generic set for now, but if anyone has stumbled across some waterproof mats that are designed for Genesis, I'd love to hear about it.

Yes. I had a set that was designed for a 530 (even had "BMW" etched in). In fact, I screwed up when I ordered them and ended up with two sets. The first set still looked great after six full years, so I never swapped them out for the second set.

From your query, can I assume you've had trouble with the brand?

For my part, all I want is a set of mats that fit well, which I don't expect to acheive off the rack at the local car wash; thus, I'm hoping to find something designed specifically for Genesis.

Since I'm not crazy about the look of rubber floor mats, you COULD do what I do - and just cover the existing "rug" pieces with thing, clear plastic ones. It looks very nice to me...

I've had no experience with aftermarket mats. But living in MN, I've seen their ads in the national car magazines and thought about ordering them. They look good in the ads, but pricey. I just thought to ask after you mentioned them because I don't know anyone who had them.

HyunGen: I'd venture to guess you're a native Floridian (or general "SunBeltian", at least). If you lived up north, you'd have long ago made peace with the necessity of having an impervious surface (with water capture features) under your feet whilst driving. Either that, or expect your fabric floor mats to look like s**t after just a year or two. I appreciate your suggestion, but given what my cars are routinely subjected to, covering my fabric mats with a clear set might look pretty good, but I fear it just won't prevent the gradual, insidious carpet damage that is typical in this climate.

Jackson: I'm also a Minnesotan -- who drives frequently to MT, Canada and even AK for sled dog races, to boot -- so I'm accustomed to outfitting my vehicles to survive various winter conditions. The Weather Techs in my BMW worked so well that the carpet was pretty much pristine after six years (so much so that my bro-in-law/dealer had to price my trade-in as being in exceptional condition!). Perhaps I'll Google for a Weather Tech site and see what I can find. I didn't get anywhere with the various Korean parts supply sites that I found.

I was actually born in New York and lived there until 4 years ago.. I just like what I feel looks best.. I don't want my mats getting dirty - so I cover them with the clearest plastic floor mats I can find.. So far, I've had pretty good luck doing so...

Hyundai Genesis should be credited with the invention of Floor Mat Condoms.

Musher51 & Jackson,

I too live in MN and am glad you are ahead of me trying to solve the same issues I am thinking about as I get close to getting the car. Please let me know what you end up choosing for mats. For our family car - a Toyota Sienna - I spent the $150 for the factory winter mats and they are fantastic. I wish Hyundai already had them available as an option.

Is it really necessary to get separate wheels for winter? Why wouldn't you just get a separate set of tires?

As for custom rubber mats, it's hard to say if Hyundai will make them available before this winter. Their attention to detail insofar as rolling out the Genesis is checkered, at best, and I doubt this is at the top of their "to do" list. One short-term suggestion that my dealer made is to simply flip the carpeted mats upside down, exposing the rubber underside. This won't do much to capture water that melts off your shoes, etc., but at least you're not trashing the carpeted side.

I don't know about those mats - as far as how they would perform in snowy winter climates? Maybe it is just me but the mats I have found to work the best in snow have deeper, vertical groves to hold more mositure as it evaporates. The shallow circles in those mats don't look like they would do as well at holding the melted snow in place until it evaporates...

I agree, Viking. For years, I've relied on rubber mats that not only have deep grooves to capture water/melting snow, but that are also elevated around the perimeter to make sure that water doesn't just run off the mats while turning, braking, etc.

I saw the mats listed on ebaymotors but didn't buy them as it appears they won't do anything to keep water from running onto the carpet.

I exchanged e-mails with Weather Tech a couple of weeks ago, and they're estimating that they'll have mats designed specifically for Genesis available in approx. six months. Unfortunately, that timeline will completely miss the upcoming winter season, so I'm still on the lookout for a workable alternative.

I bought a set of Hexomat winter floor mats from Auto Anything, and they look pretty nice. They are sized specifically to the Genesis.
Unfortunately they have a really strong odor, and we have been airing them out now for two weeks in the garage and they still stink. Will probably have to return them. They smell like skunk. Just can't put them in the car smelling like that.
Has anyone found anything else yet that works? I had a set of Husky Liners in my old Sienna and they were great. But looks like they are not yet available for the Genesis.

No, Dave, and with winter rapidly approaching, I'm getting kinda desperate to find something. I just took another look at ebay, and one seller there has a variety of rubber mats that appear to be cut specifically for Genesis, but from what I can discern from the photos, they lack adequate water "capture" capability, e.g. a raised rim around the perimeter to keep melted snow, etc. from simply running off the mat and on to the carpet.

I call Weather Tech periodically to see if they've developed something for Genesis, but their current prediction is mid-February...pretty late to be useful this winter.

Sorry to hear of the odor issue with the Hexomats from Auto Anything. Assuming that issue can be resolved, how are they design-wise? Do they have some sort of capture feature to prevent water from running off? Can they be ordered on-line?

I ordered them online through Auto Anything. From what I have seen, they are one of the few (perhaps only) that are available to specifically fit our cars. They also are available through ebay I believe. Looks like they were cut to fit the car, and if you had a big sheet of the raw material, you could cut them to fit most any car.
The design is a honeycomb pattern, each honeycomb is about one inch in diameter and about 1/8 to 3/16 inch deep. So the theory is that the honeycombs themselves catch and hold the water.
We never put them in the car and are returning them tomorrow because they still smell pretty bad. Don't want the new car smell to turn to a skunk car smell.:(
The design looks good though, and they are well-manufactured assuming you can get a set that smells good.

Thanks for the heads-up on Auto Anything, Dave...I hadn't heard of them before. Given your deal-breaker issue with the odor (which was clearly substantiated by numerous on-line customer comments), I called AA to see if they could offer any suggestions/remedies, and the CSR recommended an alternative product by Lloyds. He said that Lloyds isn't having the problem that Hexomatic is by virtue of the fact that they're sending SQEs to China to inspect the rubber before it's shipped. Further, he assured me that they share a similar design (deep pockets to capture water), and if anything, Lloyds' design is superior in that the pockets are round (versus hexagonal) and thus easier to clean.

You may not find Genesis listed as on option for Lloyds at their website, but the CSR was confident that they could produce a custom set for Genesis (not sure if AA or Lloyds is doing the work), and he sold me a 4-piece set for $89, predicting an ETA between 7 - 14 days, so I pulled the trigger. Hope you can get your situation resolved with AA. It'd be interesting to see if they offer to swap your Hexomatics for Lloyds. I'll letcha know if the Lloyds product is odor-free as soon as they arrive. As much as I like snow, hope we don't see much around here 'til they arrive!

ok, thanks.
I checked out the Lloyd web site, and that product looks good. It is similar to the one I have returned to Auto Anything, just with circular indents rather than honeycomb indents.
Clicking through on the Loyd website list of authorized vendors, I found one that does list the Genesis on the list of cars that are available. That one was U.S. Speed.com. So I now have a set on order from US Speed, when they arrive I'll let you know.
Cost was $85 with shipping included on the four piece set form US Speed. But their return policy does not look as good as Auto Anything. Hopefully there will be no issues here with smell!

My Lloyd's mats arrived at my work address over the Thanksgiving holiday, took eight days from date of order to arrival here in Milwaukee. I opened them up today and they have a slight vinyl smell to them but it is livable, 100X better than the Hexomat mats' skunk smell. The circular indentations on the Lloyd mats are not quite as deep as the honeycomb indentations on the Hexomat mats, but they should work to catch and collect most of the dripping snow and slush that comes in on our boots and shoes.
So I will install them in the Genesis this evening and be all good to go for the winter.
