If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. New here so I hope I'm in the correct forum.
I'm considering buying a 2012 Genesis 4.6 sedan or an R-Spec. I've shopped several local Birmingham, AL dealers and noticed a small add-on sticker listing items such as pin striping, nitrogen, Hyundai something-or-the-other ($695) and on and on. A salesman at Tameron Hyundai told me that the small sticker was added at port but the add-ons were negotiable. I stopped by Tameron a couple of days ago and looked at several cars in the back lot that apparently had just been delivered as they were still covered with the exterior plastic covering, plactic wheel covers covering the wheels and yes the add-on sticker. It appeared that the vehicle came to the lot with the add-on sticker already on the car. The add-ons exceeded $2400 total. Another salesperson told me that the $695 charge was for a 150 point inspection done at port, checking for anything that may require return of car (to Korea?).
I'm not a young guy or a fool and usually I just leave the lot and go to another dealer when I see ANY add ons. I think all of it is a rip. I'm considering buying another brand vehicle. The add-ons will determine whether or not I'll buy a Hyundai. I really don't need a car and I never do a deal that I'm not completely happy with.
I hope others here have had similiar experiences and can share those thoughts or experiences. Thanks in advance.

Shop at least two other dealers. The two dealers I know off here in Georgia do not have add on crap. They are up front with the R-spec pricing and add an amount called market adjustment on a separate sticker. All other cars they have just have the factory sticker no add ons.

Thanks for the reply.

I've visited several Hyundai dealers here and they all have varying degrees of extra charges on the additional sticker. Even Buick and Nissan dealers do this here, but not to the tune of $2400.

What is the 'market adjustment' charge about?

When the R-spec sedan first hit the dealer lots it was in short supply. So, its a supply vs. demand thing. The market adjustment at Rick Case Hyundai in Atlanta GA was, I think, $5,000.00 added to the sticker. I don't beleive it is that much now, if any.

You should purchase through a buying service, such as available to customers of American Express, Bank of America, most credit unions, Costco, etc (visit these websites if you belong to any of them). The add-on stuff is just crap. I am not sure why they are so much in Alabama, maybe because Hyundai has a manufacturing plant there, and they think more people are pre-disposed to purchase a Hyundai.

I know it's not close (geographically) to Alabama, but maybe it is worth the drive to Columbus, Indiana for the following deal.

Bob Poynter Hyundai (bobpoynterhyundai.com) has a Black/Black 2012 R-Spec at a no haggle price of $40,799. Randy Wetzel is the gentleman that I dealt with there and I found him to be a straight shooter. I would also suspect that he has a little more give in that price - ~$500. Additionally, Bob Poynter does not charge any document fees. The price will be the negotiated deal plus 7% sales tax.

Disclosure: In the end, I did NOT buy my Genesis from Randy because he did not have a White/Cashmere 3.8 that I wanted. But that was not because of anything related to Bob Poynter or Randy Wetzel.

This R-Spec deal makes me want to trade my 3.8 for the R-Spec but the "one who must be obeyed" would not find that fiscally prudent  and I tend to agree with her.

Thanks for the heads up zaksd. I'll check their site.

I was looking at paying 40,925 plus taxes when I get down to the nitty-gritty. Usually I give a salesman 30 minutes to wrap up a deal before I get up and walk out. It gets their attention.

I like the R-Spec , haven't driven one, but the 4.6 sedan would be okay. I figure 39,225 is about what I'd pay for the non-R-Spec sedan. The sedan drives and rides fine and I've had my time in a Corvette but hey, you can never have too much power!

Thanks for the help.

Its only 3 to 4 hour drive to Atlanta from where you are. You may want to check Rick Case in Atlanta they give you a 20 year 200,000 mile power train warranty. Also Five Star Hyundai in Macon GA gives great deals, A friend of mine just bought his R-spec from Five Star Hyundai in Macon and he lives only 20 min. from Rick Case in Duluth, GA. (the 20 year 200,000 thing was not important to him)If you can save 1,000.00 its worth the time and drive.

IMO, Rick Case Hyundai sucks. Is anyone really going to keep a car for more than 10 years? Even if they did, I would bet that Rick Case has some way to get out the warranty (such as requiring that dealer does periodic maintenance that not required by Hyundai).

I keep vehicles a long time if they do not give me problems. I have had my suburban since 1998, my mustang since 1987, and we bought a Toyota in 1976 and sold it in 1993. I do get rid of vehicles at about 225,000 miles. I learned from my grandfather that getting a new car just to get a new car is not a wise use of my money. So I use a car up then get rid of it. My grandfather only had three new cars that I knew of before he died and he paid cash for them and used them up over 15 to 20 years each.
BTY Rick Case Hyundai gives use excellent service and loaner if needed, and we did not purchase the car from Rick Case due to some friendship politics. Check the dealer survey thread and see what others say about Rick Case in Duluth GA.

I usually keep cars a relatively long time, but 10 years is a long time for most people who buy a Genesis. I am quite sure the 20 year - 200K mile powertrain warranty only applies to the original owner and would bet my life that there are significant other "gotcha's" on collecting on that warranty.

I am very familiar with both Rick Case Hyundai in Duluth and Rosewell, and IMO their sales tatics are slimy and they were not helpful in locating inventory at other dealers that they could trade for. Even their parts department sucks (sold me the wrong oil filter even after spending 10 minutues on their computer looking up part number).

Here is a another member's view of Rick Case:

I read the link about the Rick Case dealership which is was about a Rick Case in Florida. I guess it goes back to training of people in sales and service etc. The manager at that dealership fell down on the job. Funny, we had the same kind of experience at the BMW dealer in Duluth, Ga, the BMW people did not know their cars, did not know where the inventory was and did not offer to locate a car at another lot. Maybe dealerships are also like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

I recently purchased a 2012 Genesis 4.6 from Lehman Hyundai in North Miami, FL. I got a great deal on my car, no add on BS (they told me that was there for the people that walk in and pay full price, not to worry about it (actually, 2 other dealers told me the same thing.. once in a while, someone will walk in and is willing to pay full price, so that is just delaer profit)). Sales manager was great (Greg) Sales person knew everything about the car (Carlince) If you are in the market, give them a shot.
