Could not decide if I should put this in the "Lounge" section or here in the Electrical section. I chose here as I am including the Genesis Tech GPS.
In the week after Christmas, we will be driving out through NW Texas, Central NM (Roswell and Ruidoso), AZ (Phoenix) then to CA (San Diego, LA, etc), then pick up I-40 through Flagstaff, on to Albuquerque, Clines Corners then back down to Roswell, before we return to Central Florida. We expect SNOW, SALT and COLD everywhere except Phoenix, San Diego and LA. Because of this, we will be taking our 02 Continental FWD, not the Genesis.
Another reason for taking the 02 Continental is that there is a good chance that I may be called up to Western New York for a family emergency as I have a 100 year old aunt (I am her POA and Health Care Surrogate) that is not doing the best with various things.
Because of the above, I ordered a Garmen Nuvi 1375T Navi unit that operates in the USA/Canada and Europe. I have been learning how to use it these past few days. I now have it all figured out. (Took me a while to figure out how to make North Up, not Forward Up). About the only thing I don't like compared to the Built In Genesis Tech unit is the Garmen does not go "Ding Ding" when you come to your turn (small price to pay), but "Geraldine" does tell you to turn at xxxxxx street. Screen also goes to a close-up by itself when you are close to your turn.
Noticed that the Garmen has the NavTraffic lines to show that traffic is good, or bad, or whatever, however the Garmen and the Genesis do not agree with each other. One may show heavy traffic and the other will show nothing. Does not bother me as neither one show how traffic really is.
One thing I've never liked about the Genesis Tech GPS is that it does not show an accurate altitude reading. Always in 200 or 100 foot increments. The Garmen shows in 1 foot increments. (May or may not be accurate).
Next June, we plan on going to France and a bit of Italy, and buying a Garmen here is much cheaper than leasing my car with a built in GPS at $500 more than without the GPS.
BTW, The Continental, although not as great a car as the Genesis, it is still a great car for its age, and goes through snow with ease.
