  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have 2013 Genesis 3.8 and I had transmission problem. When the car is hot gears 1to2 and 2 to 3 cars RPM going to so high until 4-5k. after gear change.
I brought the dealer they couldnt find problem.
also I bought external warranty when i got the car but no one didnt tell me it doesnt cover if you are driving for TLC (commercial use).
My car is right now 68k. my external warranty cover until 110k ( from fidelity) hyundai warranty already over.

I am in NYC. if there any help about that problem I will be appreciated it.

I have a 2014 Genesis 3.8 sedan and it doesn't do what your describing here..

I went out and just ran mine and it didn't even come close..
Both models have the same tranny as far as I know..

I'm in NY also...If your by Brooklyn, Take it to Plaza Hyundai and have them scan it.
It seems the dealer should be able to pick up a shift pattern problem on the scanner if they checked it properly..

The guys at Plaza Hyundai are top notch, try them..347-983-5977

Good Luck..

2013 and 2014 Gen's are 1G cars.

Yeah I know...Typing Error..

I think I might know that considering I've owned 3..

Silly me...

Hard to tell from video, is it not shifting until you hit 4k or 5k?

Or is it revving up to 4k or 5k "after" the shift?

If the latter, it is slipping, the 4k to 5k revving is essentially while it is in-between gears.

If the former, I would ask if you have used the manual shift mode much. The Aisin and ZF transmissions are adaptive and learn your shifting behavior from manual mode operation.

I have a 2013 Genesis 34K Miles with same exact problem. The problem is somewhat intermittent. When on the freeway and downshifting to pass the car often downshifts fine to the appropriate passing gear, but on the going back from 5, 6, 7, 8 the transmission slips and the gear does not engage at which point the engine roars to 3-4K RPM. After a second or two the transmission hammers into gear. This sometimes also happens when accelerating from a traffic light.

I took the car to Suburban Hyundai in Troy Michigan and they told us the car needed $600 tune up consisting of service not required based on the maintenance manual.

The transmission is clearly slipping. Several of our local GM and Ford power-train engineering friends noted the same on test rides. Would appreciate some guidance on how to handle this especially with the behavior from the dealer.
