  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genny 3.8 Htrac

So are any owners of that have an Htrac version of this car? How is it? Likes? Dislikes? Etc..... Any difference in ride and drive?

I love mine, but I can't compare it to any other 2g so I can't tell you if it drives and rides and handles better or worse.

Definitely rides better than the Gen-1 Genesis by a long way.
No idea if there is any difference between Gen-2 AWD vs. RWD as we don't get the Rear Wheel drive version here in Canada.

The car is definitely heavier than my Gen-1 2012 and the acceleration is not as lively, but still perfectly adequate.

Only minor dislike is the electric steering which lacks feel and precision. Not a major issue but noticeable nevertheless.

I have one and love it. Only notice the HTRAC when it gets wet out.

We have relatives up north so we will use it when we visit during Christmas. In the DFW area it's not as a big a deal.

First time Hyundai owner so can't compare with Gen 1, but this is by far the best car I've ever owned. Getting plenty of use out of AWD in Northwest Minnesota. We just had a warm front melt most of the snow, followed by sleet turning back to snow. Many roads were glare ice until the salt crews got after them. I'm just running the all-season Hankooks for now and had no problems at all with traction. Have also driven through 2-3 inches of new snow and again, she powers right through. That said, I've tended to leave it in "normal" mode vs. "snow" mode. I think snow mode would be useful in a complete glare ice situation, but otherwise it basically takes most of the power away from the wheels to avoid slipping. Acceleration is laughable in snow mode, but it probably helps you get out of ditch! But in normal mode, if you have any road feel at all, you'll be fine leaving in that mode. The AWD system definitely works differently from the SHAWD system on my 2006 Acura RL. Both do well in the snow but the Genesis still seems to favor more power to the rear, whereas the SHAWD puts power to any wheel not slipping. I like them both and can't say I favor one over the other. In summer/clear road conditions, I definitely like the HTRAC system, as it better simulates a RWD sports car with more power going to the rear. Just my observations!

Like all the reviews, this is a quantum leap up from my 2012 Gen1. I haven't really had occasion to feel the awd, except one on a trip to Canada and it really dug in and scooted. My 2012 was a bear to get moving in the slippery snow. I constantly had to feather the traction control on/off to get it moving.

HTRAC vs 2012 RWD: huge difference. This area gets a ton of rain. I am extremely heavy footed for acceleration (not so much for speeding.) Traction with my old 3.8 was a constant struggle. With AWD traction has completely disappeared as an issue.

Just punch it and off you go. Love it.

Yeh that’s about it. It was the same with my 2011. ;)
