  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HI All, I have a 2011 Gen 4.6, when crusing at 30-40 mph when I take my foot off gas car feels like its in low gear till speed drops down a little then it goes away. hyundai says normal, anybody feel this and what have you heard.

My 2010 3.8 will definately slow the car down when lifting the accelerator. It uses the engine for braking. My Impala did that some, but it seems the Gen does it pretty strong. Sometimes it anoying, because I just want to coast. All in all, I like it better than my Lesabre, because it has no engine braking at all. It'll even speed up on slight downhill with my foot lifted.

I have the same behavior in my 2012 3.8. I found it extremely noticeable as I adjusted to my new car. There was a lot of discussion on this forum about the shift patterns of the 8-speed transmission and yet no one even commented on this obvious engine braking that seemed unusual to me. It seems from your comments that it's not just an 8-speed phenomenon.

It actually took me several months to adjust to the feel of the engine braking but now I accept it and have learned to appreciate it in most situations. However I do admit to occasionally doing a manual upshift in situations when it's more comfortable to roll freely.

I have a 2012 3.8 and wish it had more coast down. I am used to BMW and even a 2011 Sonata had more draw down. Now as i get used to the car I see some draw down at highway speeds and love it. If i want to coast i just crack the throttle a bit I like to lift off throttle and see some draw down in speed to me it is safer. Years ago they put in free for all coast to save gas, that was scary. With 8 speeds and the RPM so low all the time you will not see much draw down in speed anyway.
