I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is a rural area here, about 38k people in 1,502 square miles. There are no Hyundai dealerships within about 220 miles. Chevrolets and Fords rule the roads here, because there are only those dealerships here. I've had my 2016 Genesis for about 14 months. It is not a daily driver and sometimes sits for a week or two between cruises. I have not seen many Genesis' in this area since I've owned my car, just a few with out-of-state plates passing through. I did see my first with a local plate earlier this week. Because there just aren't any of these cars around, I get this question fairly regularly, usually at gas stations or car washes. "Wow, that's a beautiful car. Who makes Genesis?" they walk up awe-struck, in total admiration of the car until I tell them it is made by Hyundai. Their reply more often that not, usually with a sneer or look of disbelief on their face is "Hyundai"? Then they walk away. For what ever reason, so many people truly unfamiliar with the Hyundai brand think they are a sub-par brand. Yes, 30 years ago, when they first started selling in the United States, they were crap. Now, they are the 4th largest Auto-maker in the world and I would put my Genesis up against any car in it's class. Then again, some people in this part of the Country are still living in the 90's. Those that engage me in conversation long enough and are truly curious about the car will hear this. My last car was a 2014 Cadillac CTS. My Genesis is ten times the car the Cadillac was from comfort to performance to spaciousness, etc. The only thing I liked more about the CTS was the exterior styling. Mine was candy-apple red and just beautiful. Other than that, I was so disappointed with it. It was in the shop fairly regularly in the short time I had it. The Genesis is a better deal financially when comparing comparable CTS' and Genesis'. That's what I tell them. Some walk away saying hmmmm! The others, well, if it doesn't say Chevrolet or Ford on it, they aren't interested. Oh, what they are missing.
