  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Glove box latch won't operate properly

Service tried spray and lining up the pins but could not get the glove box to operate properly.
They decided to change the lock and I have not had a problem since. Works fine every time now.

What a great forum. Had the same problem, managed to get it opened, applied sewing machine oil, and now works like a charm. Thanks for taking the time to help me fix the issue.

My 2015 Hyndai Genesis Sedan had a stuck Glove Box. I could not open it. The latch on the right side would not release. To open the Glove Box, I removed the hinge pins under the Glove Box Door. They just slide out. Remove the two stop plugs on the inside. Wiggle the box and detach the stop cable on the outside right. I had to pry and break the tabs to get the front cover off he black body. Factory glues the two pieces together. Not serviceable. Once I got it apart I found that the plastic pinion gear had a broken shaft. Gear just floated around, not moving the right latch. So I removed the right latch arm and that gear. The lever works the left latch fine. The mechanism is well greased with lithium or Plastilube. Never use oil or petroleum grease on plastic parts. I put a little shrink wrap tubing over the lock's actuator finger. I tried to screw the two halves back together and used adhesive too. Put it back in the car and now it woks fine but there is only the left latch. No cost solution to a $400 replacement Glove Box. Hope this helps someone.
