  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi. the Glove compartment won’t open. I’m thinking it’s the latch. the latch operates but it doesn’t open the door. Actually it’s the right side that won’t open. Is this a dealer repair or can my Indy do it?

It’s a design flaw with the handle actually, occasionally it will over-release the right latch and won’t pick it up again.

I just pry in the right side with a plastic spudger, use a screwdriver to release the latch, then cut the latch off. Redundancy is nice and all, but only if it’s useful. The left latch can carry anything you can fit in the compartment without issue.
Won’t even rattle.

Mine failed while the car was still under warranty and was replaced by the local Hyundai dealership.

This also happen to me. Dealer wanted $475 to fix it. He also show me how to just deal with it, by hiring the right side until it unlock.

With the car out of warranty, dealer wants $425 to replace it. Hyundai doesn’t sell just the latch.. you need to buy the entire outer door assembly which includes the latch. I will no longer be using the glove box.

Yep, just cut the right side latch off. It's not needed. Hacksaw, Leatherman, big pliers, saber saw, etc.

Like most parts on this car, the one that fails is $1, but to get it you need $400 of connected materials.

Could you explain what you mean? Not sure what hiring the right side means. Thanks.

Hitting. It's not a surefire fix.

Cutting off the right side latch 100% fixes it.

After finally getting the door open, I covered the notch inside the compartment where the right latch fits with thick tape. Now when I close the door it stays in place with just the left mechanism engaging and I open and close the door easily (so far).
