  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have tried many searches and could find no information on this subject.

I have had 4 different head units in my 3.8 Ultimate and my current one came from an Ultimate that had been on the dealer's lot for a while. I found that this unit will not respond to a “Go Home” or “Navigate Home” like my previous head unit systems. Additionally, after pressing the “talk” button on the steering wheel, the menu displayed on the GPS screen does not include the “Go Home” as the upper right selection like my previous head units did. The upper right selection is “Find the Nearest” and there is no “Go Home” button on the screen.

My “work around” is to use previous destinations in the menu, but I was wondering if this issue is unique to this head unit or if other people have a head unit software version that does not have a “go home” feature?

Also, has anyone had the head unit software updated in their Ultimate?

Wow 4 different head units!?? My goodness that sounds horribly inconvenient. Sorry to hear that.

The "GO HOME" selection is on the lower left side of the screen. But, you know you must first program the unit with the HOME address. The manual is a great source of answers.

I have deleted and recreated my "Home" in the GPS "Favorites" group several times including using the "add home" method in the manual, and a couple other methods that I figured out. The "Go Home" option was never added to the menu and the displayed menu never changed. And the voice command never worked no matter how I entered my "Home" address.

I have read all the manuals several times because of all the problems I have had with the head units in my vehicle. I now don't even have to search for a subject in them as I have been through them so many times I know where all the information is located.

And in my original "August built" vehicle head unit for my Ultimate and the two replacement head units, the "Go Home" button is the upper right item on the menu screen, indicating that kev4 must have an older version of the head unit software. This is a great clue and most likely indicates that the head unit software has been revised at least twice. My car has been at the dealer so often I am going to live with the software that I currently have for a at least a couple months before I try to get the (No "go home" verbal command) issue resolved.

Be careful with putting your home address in GPS, at least listed as "Home." If your car were to be stolen, it is a quick feature to allow people access to find where you live. And if you have Home Link programmed to open your garage door, they can now get into your home easier. A police officer friend highly recommended to me to NOT program my home address into the GPS.

Wow! That is a BRILLIANT point! Would NOT have thought of that! If I can think of a way to make it easily accessible and NOT home will do that pronto.

But but but....what if they would want to return the car?

I have my GPS set up for "Home" for a house about 3 doors down. And my garage door control is NOT set up in my car on purpose.

If you set your home address to a few blocks away, you can program your garage opener to actually open your garage door (without staying up all night and worrying about it).

I just tried mine - with a contact created for "Home", the nav correctly responded with my home address as the destination when prompted with a voice command of "Go home" (this is listed as a recognized voice command in the DIS manual).

Like kev4, my Go Home command is in the lower left column on that screen. I've noticed my voice commands work better after the car has been driven for a while. Has anybody else noticed that?

So nobody else has this talkscreen menu?

First off -PLEASE resize your image as it's killing the page view; especially on mobile devices.

Second - no one will have that screen as it is "FREQUENTLY USED COMMANDS" - so everyone's screen will look different based on their recent usage.

The system can display "Go Home" or "Go Office" on that screen. However, in order to do that, you first need to create the corresponding entries in the address book. If you do that and then use the voice commands regularly, it will show up on this screen. I don't and here's what my screen looked like this AM:

However, after using the "Go Home" voice command a few times, I get this:

And if I then used the "Go Office" command a few times, I get this:

Regardless of what shows on this screen, my system will reconize the nav voice commands for "Go Home/Go Office" for corresponding entries created in the address book (the address book in the car - not the address book on your phone!).

The one place where you consistently show Home or Office is through the Nav menu regardless of recent usage (assuming you've created the address book entries):

From the map screen:

You hit "Menu" and then "Destination":

You'll see the Home and Office destinations listed on the next screen (again, only if you created them):

OK - I got it I now understand that the user creates the menu by their "frequently used" commands.

I can't figure out how to resize my previous post. Can I get some help from the moderator to remove the picture?

Thanks for the help.

Confirmed "Operator Error".

Took the car to a strip mall, put the car in PARK, turned off the radio and the A/C (this is California). The "Go Home" verbal command worked on the first try and then it came up on the "Frequently Used Commands" menu.

I noticed that HOME and OFFICE are not options on the Destination Menu - at least not today.

This car is amazing.:) It is good to know that the GPS is interactive.
