I'm Mac based and am having some major issues obtaining the correct file to update my 2015 to Apple Car Play. Hyundai's website is like something out of the stone age.

First off, trying to get the downloader file on Safari is impossible as their website is confused & convinced I'm on a mobile browser (see attached screen shot). On Chrome, I can get to the downloader app but all it gives me is a *.exe file. Their documentation - later confirmed by Hyundai itself - indicates there should be a DMG file for Mac users. There is no option to choose what system I am using. No matter, whatever I do, no matter how many tries, the website only wants to give me a *.exe file. Hyundai customer service cannot help, and they do not have a direct link to the file they can send me.

I also tried with Firefox, same result: *.exe binary file.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm not paying the dealer $100 to do something I can do myself. This is maddening!

Personally, I would just keep the AhA app unless you really want Carplay.

It seems like it would be a good ideal to have the dealership take a look at it before you brick your audio system by corrupting it with a bad file. Carplay is not that impressive to me over AhA to risk the update.

I only use a aftermarket Sony CarPlay/Android Auto radio in my 2006 Cadillac Escalade due to stock radio being so out-dated, but I really do not care for it in my Genesis over the AhA app since the Google navigation map is pretty basic compared to my stock navigation as well as the other Android Auto menus.

Sony Carplay/Android Auto radio in my 2006 Escalade.

The Google map on the Sony Carplay/Android, works great but i like the OEM Genesis map better. However it is light years better than my old Caddy radio.

Android Auto/Car Play was kind of the reason I bought the car without an Ultimate package. The way the Bluetooth works in this thing, it seems to cancel everything, cut out the audio and butt-in with "connection" notices on the nav and center dash screens when it's giving me navigation updates from Waze, Google or Apple Maps. Or do I need to change some settings somewhere where the voice overs aren't so abrupt? The stock system seems to not be all that great using voice commands to dial contacts.

Ok. I got it. I have the ultimate package in my 2015 and it works great. I have not used the other navigation system option.

Well, I still think that it would be best to have the dealer perform the update, because it would cost you more is you corrupt the system files and then have the dealer replace/repair your radio.

Mac systems can be tricky compared to windows when it comes to 3rd party applications in my opinion. If you are having this much trouble then I would suggest you bit the bullet and let the pros handle it.

Thanks! I'm too fidgety to wait around the dealership for who knows how long. I'm just going to borrow a PC for a few hours and go in that direction. Will update the thread later.

The stock nav system seems pretty good, I do like the graphics. I'd just like to be able to access podcasts and my phone from the nav screen. Waze on Car Play should be along sometime in September.

so you need a PC instead of a Mac to download it at this point based on what you stated.

so do you have a buddy with a PC? if not maybe a library or Kinko's/FedEx copy center where you can use a PC?

if your local to Socal I'll DL for you..

I've got an office full of PCs so, being it's Saturday, I'll just go in and do my normal Saturday stuff (I'm a workaholic) and run the app and let it download on a separate PC. Kind of sucks because I wanted to do this at home last night since I just got the vehicle yesterday.

LOL I'm up at 6:00 am on a Saturday remotely working myself. 70-80 hours a week and on call 24/7/365, I get the workaholic thing..

Success!

It took around 4 hours total. The Hyundai servers capped out at 3.0mb/sec and then slowed to about 1.2mb/sec halfway through. The download itself was 9.8GB, so 2.5 hours for that part. Another 25 minutes to self-format the SD card, automatically move the files over and then the card itself was ready. The in-car update process took around 35 minutes.

Totally worth it to me. I prefer the ACP phone interface to Hyundai's.

I am assuming the bulk of this was due to a map update. The map files on the card were from 8/14.

Note: it wasn't super painful other than me having to find a PC to deal with their *.exe file. If you have stuff to do, download it and go away for a few hours. It's pretty much an automated process.

Ok wait!! I have been gone a while modding a F150 I bought. 3years in the 15 Ultimate and now its time to mod this car a little. So can we get Android auto on the 15 now. Id there a thread on this?

No, Ultimate will not allow for ACP. Don't know about AA. This was the entire reason I didn't get something with that package. Shame because I would have liked the HUD, larger nav screen and control wheel. No idea why they can't get it to integrate.

Different hardware, not compatible with the needed software. .

10-4 . I thought this was the case. Thanks for the clarification.

Sorry to butt in on this thread but have you guys considered an alternative solution to getting streaming music etc. into your car? I recently stumbled upon a review of an Alexa enabled car charger called a Roav Viva. I bought one to use in my '16 Genny and, shortly after, another one for the Cherokee. Basically, you bluetooth pair the Roav to your phone and then pair the phone to the car ( or choose to connect the phone via aux ). Once all is set up, you just ask Alexa to play xxxx where xxxx can be any internet radio station carried by TuneIn ( I often call up BBC Radio 2 , Radio New Zealand Concert and London's Jazz FM ), any Amazon Prime music, anything from your Pandora account etc . etc. Also, in addition to asking Alexa all sorts of questions on things you need answers to, you can ask her to give you navigation directions - like 'get directions to the nearest Walmart'. Alexa opens up Google maps in your phone and the verbals come through the car radio. I don't know if you have to have other Alexa devices at home or need to be a Prime member but it's a great device and requires no risky modification to your car radio. Available on Amazon for about $50. Edit: oh yes, you can ask Alexa to place phone calls for you using your contact list

I have a Mac, and used Safari to download CarPlay. It took hours, then my 2015 5.0 rejected the update. Tried again and it downloaded one more file (30 min maybe) and then it worked. Took 45+ minutes to install, so I just drove around town the whole time

Good job getting this to work. Your problems seem minimal to your excitement. I'm taking my car in for all new injectors and I would like to have them do this update. I don't want to mess anything up as the car is still under warranty. Can you or anyone on here start a new thread titled "ACP Install" or something along those lines? I'm fine with paying for the install but I will do it myself if I am capable. I'd love, as well as many others on the forum considering this, to see a step-by-step process with pictures and detailed instructions. I like to save money where I can.

Understandable if you can't, I'm busy as well.

It is completely ridiculous how long it takes for the download in this day and age. I also have no idea why the heck they don't simply put it on an S3 server on Amazon cloud or a torrent and simply let people use more scalable resources if Hyundai themselves can't provide it. I'm not sure what Hyundai thinks is going to happen if they simply open it up.

And if they are protective of the awful Maps they have, then I'd be perfectly happy if they just provided AA (and ACP) as a separate slim download. I used the native Maps for all of 15 minutes, 14 out of them was just for the novelty. There is a huge gap between ACP and AA, but even ACP is better than what Hyundai is providing. I'm not really sure what they are trying to protect here.

I should have documented the process because Hyundai's instructions are NOT clear.

In a nutshell:

Go to the MyHyundai site and log in. Find the Navigation and Multimedia Resources page.

It should tell you if you are eligible for an update. Their site sucks, BTW.

If you are eligible, there will be a link that'll take you to the download page. You'll download an applet that will THEN download the update for you (this is where it gave me an *.exe file that I was having issues with on my Mac and had to go find a PC). You have to run this applet/program in order for the files to be downloaded. There is no direct link to the files.

You need to insert your car's SD card into your computer for this to work at all. The applet you downloaded then downloads the necessary files, will reformat the SD card and then unpack all the files onto the SD card in whatever structure it requires. Now go mow the lawn, take a nap, watch a movie or something.

Once that is complete (2-3hrs), go to your car with the card, insert it, start the car up and follow the prompts. It'll tell you the navigation data is not authorized. Just follow the prompts and do not touch anything until it's done. It has to rebuild the nav base, too. Mine updated the maps, modem and GPS firmware as well. It will shut the system down twice - don't touch it! The syntax on their reboot warning messages make it unclear as to whether it's you who need to reboot the system or if it does it on its own. It does it on its own, don't touch it.

As an aside, I am fine with the Hyundai nav maps. I used Waze and will hang tight until it's on ACP, likely in September. Apple maps completely suck. I do like the lane discipline feature on Hyundai's maps, it's more like Google Maps. I'll stick to that for now until I can have full blown Waze on my nav screen.

Don't forget that it will take about 45 min to update the car. So you need to sit with the engine running, or just drive around town for nearly an hour. I assume that's why the dealer charges so much for it. They have to leave your car on, somewhere, for the better part of an hour while the nav system is updating.

I'm getting a replacement head unit this week. I wonder if it will have the current maps, or just the v8 ones. As long as I don't have to do the stupid CarPlay update again...

True. I just thumbed through the user manuals while it was updating the head unit seeing I had gotten the car on Friday and did all the ACP and update stuff on Saturday afternoon.
