  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

God Awful Experience Updating to Car Play

I should have documented the process because Hyundai's instructions are NOT clear.

In a nutshell:

Go to the MyHyundai site and log in. Find the Navigation and Multimedia Resources page.

It should tell you if you are eligible for an update. Their site sucks, BTW.

If you are eligible, there will be a link that'll take you to the download page. You'll download an applet that will THEN download the update for you (this is where it gave me an *.exe file that I was having issues with on my Mac and had to go find a PC). You have to run this applet/program in order for the files to be downloaded. There is no direct link to the files.

You need to insert your car's SD card into your computer for this to work at all. The applet you downloaded then downloads the necessary files, will reformat the SD card and then unpack all the files onto the SD card in whatever structure it requires. Now go mow the lawn, take a nap, watch a movie or something.

Once that is complete (2-3hrs), go to your car with the card, insert it, start the car up and follow the prompts. It'll tell you the navigation data is not authorized. Just follow the prompts and do not touch anything until it's done. It has to rebuild the nav base, too. Mine updated the maps, modem and GPS firmware as well. It will shut the system down twice - don't touch it! The syntax on their reboot warning messages make it unclear as to whether it's you who need to reboot the system or if it does it on its own. It does it on its own, don't touch it.

As an aside, I am fine with the Hyundai nav maps. I used Waze and will hang tight until it's on ACP, likely in September. Apple maps completely suck. I do like the lane discipline feature on Hyundai's maps, it's more like Google Maps. I'll stick to that for now until I can have full blown Waze on my nav screen.

I'll be doing this update when I get my car back. Your explanation is pretty detailed so I shouldn't have any problems. I can Google or call a Hyundai tech line if I get my panties in a bunch. Thanks for taking the time, man!

So, just to be clear, this requires a PC or Windows installed on Mac? I saw something about downloading Wine app to run .exe on Mac OS, but seems easier to just find a friend with a PC.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I have a Macbook Pro and used Safari to download Android Auto. The download took all night. I just left it and went to sleep. Once I downloaded all the files, my 2015 3.8 AWD would only load half the update before it was rejected. I tried 2 more times before it finally took. It was about 1.5 hours to completely load. Funny thing is I prefer using the stock Genesis navigation because I can go forward and back while in apple music with the steering wheel controls. I cannot do that with android auto. I do prefer using Android Auto when travelling. The maps are more updated and it works seamlessly with the google search engine via BlueLink. I have it set up so I can go back and forth between the stock navigation and Android Auto via a double usb charger which connects to the lighter.

ETERNAL_1906, when you hit the "Download Update" button, did it actually download a DMG file or an EXE file?
