  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This happened today. I pulled next to VW GTI at a signal and we were both making left. I was to the right of him. I knew instinctively what he would do so when signal turned green we both lunged forward. I was in sports mode on my 5.0 and I was surprised that Genny shook sideways 2 times trying to balance? IMO, the traction control kicked in but man was it aggressive. I lost the lead to him and he took left at the next signal, the road was not straight, it was winding but still I hoped my 420 hp would smoke the 210 or so hp of the GTI but I was kind of wrong. It lasted for about 300 meters. I am by no means driver with race skills but if we both go in a straight line, I am pretty sure Genny will smoke the GTI but the jerking movement of Genny took me by surprise. Is this to be expected? I did not know that GTI is that fast

During a street race everything is possible. This does not mean your Genny is slower than a GTI. Simply impossible.

I owned a GTI. They are VERY easy to mod/tune, and you can get 300 HP and above very cheaply and safely. With their weight, they can easily beat V8s.

The Genesis isn't a street racer unless its just a stoplight to stoplight drag race. As you noted, the stability management system and the transmission control software both work against you in a real road race.

They can be over come so that you can use all 420 HP but it takes a deft touch more than a lead foot. The car is designed to be a luxury car whereas the GTI was designed to be a nimble streeter that allows the driver more freedom to use all the car's capabilities.

I guess I will get slammed, but I have lost my infatuation with racing cars on public streets. It's bad enough today with texting van moms and pokeman engaged drivers swerving across lanes, but avoiding testosterone-fueled, amateur Mario Andretti's makes it worse. It's also meaningless, as stated above given the conditions and car specifics.

I get more pleasure these days letting a boy racer pull away from me in a smoke cloud and not racing him as he gets off thinking he just whipped a V8 Hyundai, but never really sure.

Hm...beaten by a Golf...should've disabled the nannies before playing :)

No one knows what's under the hood of our cars, unless they're familiar with the 3.8 or 5.0 badge. I usually go undetected...however, until with the recent exhaust upgrade...this car is a friggin rocket if you know how to launch/drive it.

I owned a Chrysler 300 AWD Hemi and I had similar issues. Thankfully, the traction control saved my butt. Usually occurred going around a slow poke Camry or Corolla. The car was a total blast to drive with amazing torque, but not so much to be dangerous.

I would imagine your Genesis is very similar....fun but not dangerously fun.

And I also hate the wanna be race car drivers. I can drive fast too but I usually just pass on the left and stay otherwise out of the left lane. Not zig zagging all over several lanes.

That may be ill-advised for 98% of Hyundai drivers with a two ton vehicle with 420 HP.

1. As mentioned, the GTI can easily be modded into a legitimately fast car.

2. As also mentioned - the road is a F'ing hazard whether you're racing or driving nowadays. Everybody is looking down at their phone instead of ahead at the road. I used to drive to relax. Now I need a drink to calm down after a drive.

That message is for the other 2% that knows what they're doing :)

Don't feel like poking holes in your statement so I'll leave it at that :D
