If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am the second owner of a non-CPO 2014 Equus with 8,000 miles on it and am considering the Hyundai Platinum Protection plan $0 dedcutible/10yr/100k miles. Anyone know what a good price for this plan would be? My local dealer quoted me a ridiculous price of $3,000, of course.

They do charge more at 3 years old than if purchased when the car is new (or relatively new). This is because the time value of money (you pay upfront), and also because they figure that no one purchasing an extended warranty at time of new car purchase is doing so because of any existing problem.

However, that is not to say you can't do better, because I don't really know. Just can't compare prices others paid when purchased when their car was new.

Good to know, thanks. Delray Hyundai came in at $2,100 and Jim Ellis at $2,495.

This warranty will make your car a greaaaaaaaaaaaat buy!
The car is outstanding.
And your pocket will be protected for years.
2,100.00 seems a good price for an Equus.

I paid $2000...but mine includes a $100 deductible
Extended the factory warranty for an additional 5 years/60K miles through Hyundai

Warren

well Delray Hyundai couldn't sell me the HPP since I was out-of-state. I guess I'll have to go with Jim Ellis. Any other suggestions?

Go back to your Hyundai dealer and bargain with them.

As far as I can gather, nothing really goes wrong with these cars (2014-2016)

I do have a transmission stutter, (2nd gear) that the dealership didn't fix/couldn't replicate the issue, while under warranty.
Vehicle's now just over 220K miles.
If and when the transmission dies, I'll find a used tranny and install it.

I just replaced the original serpentine belt :o ... which shows no cracks, but a little wear on the outer belt rib/groove.
I replace air filters every 20K/30K miles.
The passenger side DI fuel pump was much louder than the drivers side pump, so I just added some Marvel Mystery Oil to the Motor oil and fuel tank....the knocking noise immediately disappeared.

The interior still looks brand new on my 2014 model, except for the scuffing on the glove box cover, a little wear on the steering wheel and driver's door handle/switch area. Also the dashboard had a bit of a wrinkle next to the center speaker grill. The edge had curled upwards (has occurred on two Equus' I've owned) Cars are not garaged and exposed to Southern California sun all day/every day.

Not sure how this occurred, but happened with two vehicles....the front fender liners mysteriously disappeared.

The wheels are easily curb rashed.
The front bumper is very low imo, and easily scratched/damaged on curbs.
The front bumpers are also not the sturdiest. I've had to replace one (about $650 including paint)
The two mounting points the wheel wells are really thin and can easily brake, if the bumper is bumped hard enough.

Used 2014-2016 models are a great value right now.

Oh yeah, I have no faith in warranties...I'd rather wing it and fix things myself than shell out $2500 for a warranty, that I may or may not use.

Yes, I did take a huge box of Whitman's chocolates to the service dept. at holiday time. The service mgr got diabetes and left.

On the subject of extended warranties, when I bought the '14 Santa Fe Sport in August '14 I paid $1,295 for an extended warranty from my Hyundai dealer. At the same time, I paid the same amount for one for my '12 Genesis which was approaching 3 years old. I particularly wanted to be sure that I had the audio and nav systems covered after their 3 year coverage expired.

Both warranties cover 10/100,000 and are transferable for $50. I bargained with the finance guy on the price of the warranties. So, that's my advice to everybody who asks. BARGAIN.

Mine has a scuffed glove box cover also, drives me nuts looking at it, so I bought a new one for $150. Let's see how long it is before a passenger messes it up.
