If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My GPS has worked fine until today, when it started displaying my position about 50 or so miles off the true position. Traveling with the moving map on, it seems as though sometimes I would be moving through offroads, or even across bodies of water, and when I would approach a road on the map, my position would "snap" to that road, which unfortunately would still be an incorrect road since as mentioned the position is off by some 50 miles or more.

I have been having problems with my XM due to a faulty antenna/connector, and the dealer has been working to resolve this issue (the dolphin tail antenna on the roof has already been replaced, but the dealer is waiting for the connector part to come in) - not sure if its related.

Does anyone have any idea of what might be the issue and if there is a quick fix before I add this to my dealer's to-do list?

If you are always 50 miles off, maybe you are in a parallel universe?

I had 2 different Honda Accords with a nav system on on occasion this would happen.

In my Accord manual it said this could happen, but would recorrect, and it always did in short order. I cannot remember the explanation for it, but it wasn't a malfunction of the GPS.

I never paid attention to how "off" it was, but it was amusing when I went through water.

With your other issues, I can't say. If it does this for long periods of time, I'd say you had a problem. Or maybe the parallel universe thing...

I'd definitely add it to the list of issues for your dealer to work on, especially if you're having other antenna problems as well.

What was wrong with your XM? I renewed my XM service several months after the trial period expired, and the reception isn't as good. There are more places where the signal drops out when there are trees in the way - the dropouts used to occur in the same areas, but weren't as long. But I get good reception in the parking deck at work. It's not fully walled, and I guess the signals reflect and bounce around inside the deck.

Check all of your settings. Also, sometimes it is a problem with a satellite not the GPS unit.

My XM is a long standing problem that I've had since getting the car a few months back. The XM was completely unable to receive any sort of signal, and the dealer determined initially that it was due to a faulty XM antenna, which apparently is the dolphin tail looking antenna on the top of the roof. After that was replaced, the XM still didn't work so now they say its due to a faulty connector, but unfortunately the connectors are on backorder from Hyundai, so I am waiting for the part to come in. Apparently it will be a major repair when the part does come in because the connector is buried somewhere deep inside the headliner (not even sure what that means but its what I've been told).

I've been checking all the settings but there's not a one for missing satellite. I would think that if it were a problem with a satellite though, every one would be having the same problem?

I certainly hope that it does correct itself, that would be the best solution since I only have one car right now and my dealer does not give loaners during repairs of the Nav/music system (really annoying).

I did a quick check on the Hyundai Service Manual website and it appears that the GPS and XM share the same antenna (the shark fin). If you are having problems with XM because of a defective connector at the antenna, I would suspect it is affecting your GPS signals as well. If the new connector does not solve the problem, I would start investigating software in the DIS and downstream wiring problems from the antenna.

I brought the car in to the dealer to have it looked at. I explained that the GPS was working fine until a couple of days ago. Service suggested it had something to do with the map update, and tried to install it. Needless to say, that did not work. Now they think that it has something to do with the XM antenna (which they are still trying to fix and waiting on the part to ship). If so, I do not understand why the XM was never working and the GPS only recently failed.

Interestingly enough, the GPS seems to have recalibrated itself recently. While still off course, it is now only about a few miles off instead of a few hundred miles off. Still makes navigating impossible (since its off to the northwest or something like that) but curious that it did that.

Have you tried actual navigation with this problem? Setting a destination and seeing if it guides you correctly? If it does, then the GPS is fine, right? If it doesn't, it kind of narrows the cause.
One more question:
On my '09 Gen there was a setting for "restore to original" or something like that. Have you tried doing that to see if the map resets itself?

No, sadly that does not fix the problem. Usually I am in the middle of a body of water or a golf course or maybe a mountain range, so the GPS will ask me to proceed to the highlighted route. But if I am on a road, it will give me the incorrect directions.

Restore to original does not address the problem sadly.
