  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

"Sticky" wants us to quit "bitchin" about the map data base, and does so with a locked thread.

Here is what I think: I am driving a brand new 2010 Genesis sedan with the advanded tech package and the map data base is at least 2 years out of date. I know that because I own other GPS devices and have compared them.

How in the heck can I fix this mess (for interstate driving) by reporting errors as "sticky" suggests? I know, so far, that the data base is behind the times for my local area. So, I report my problems and how will that will help me when I venture afar? GIMMEE a break!

C'mon, the map data base stinks and Hyundi needs to upgrade recent buyers at no cost.

OK, now tell us how you really feel? No kidding. Don't lie to us. How do you really feel?

((Just kidding - don't get angry))

This is the info from my car:

Nav software version: 3.00.00.2009.08.17 Genesis 4.6 - w/full tech pkg: Car manuf date: 2/8/2010

The country is so broke I don't think any new roads have been built in the last two years-- And most of the new small businesses started in the last two years have gone out of business by now. Bottom line-- your not missing much with an upgrade.

No new highways being built; you're probably right.

Resurfacing perfectly fine and intact highways; going on every day here in MA with a GIANT GREEN sign that says "Economic Recovery Act". HA!

I would not venture more than two blocks away from your home as you might get lost. And as for that new McDonalds on the corner... well that can be "waypointed" into your GPS.

What I have noticed on the map is a lack of street names. You would think that when zoomed up to 50meters (165 feet ) the names would pop up easily. And I'm talking about old streets, nothing new. My previously used Garmin 255W had them all.

The situation is almost laughable. Incompetence and lack of customer care will lead to ultimate failure. THIS COMPANY IS ON THAT ROAD.

What company?

Ok Don, c'mon. I don't just believe in Hyundai because I want to. Look at what's happening in the auto market. Look who's doing it, and who's not doing it, look who's got recall problems, look who makes powerful and very fuel efficient vehicles; some that are a blast to drive above 120mph and in control.

Lastly, look at customer satisfaction. One can't base a car or a company from just a forum. Look at the big picture. On the NAV "issue", I would suggest visiting other automotive forums, you may find that the NAV or other items are far from satisfactory in other automobiles.

I agree. In Castle Rock, Colorado the Colorado State Patrol shows an address that is 5 years out of date. Roads that have been in place for some 6 years are not shown on the GPS maps. This should be a piece of cake to keep maps updated on an annual basis.

There are only a couple of providers for the RAW map data, that all of the Nav software/gps-makers use. I have to think that keeping the map data for the entire country up to date is not a trivial task. I would also guess that companies like NAVTEQ (one of the major providers of map data) rely to a large extent on reports from users about errors and omissions. If somebody doesn't report it, it's less likely to get updated (either because they don't know about it, or they figure nobody cares).

Our just purchased 4.6 w/tech pkg has several outdated map areas. There really should be a way to easily update. Anyone know how???

Very unfunny. Just got back from Pgh. Pa. and the GPS wanted me to turn left against the flow onto a one-way street. Found out that street was changed 3 years ago.

just purchased a 2010 genesis 4.6 Sedan without the tech package. The touchscreen nav system I have shows the version to be 2.08.14. Do you know if this is the most current or how I could go about finding out? The screen does have a block that says MAP UPGRADE. When touch block it just says insert map disk so I don't think it means an upgrade is actually needed.

Contacted Hyundai Motor America 800-633-5151 today (06/30/10). Helpful if you have your VIN# when you call, but not rerquired. As a 2009 Genesis w Prem/Tech pkgs owner, I too am looking for the 2010 Navi map update release information, and my dealer simply did not know. Found out DUE FOR RELEASE [TO DEALERSHIPS] AUGUST 2010. NO INFO ON COST.

Good luck!

I Live in Chicago,Il. and last week got lost out in Joilet, looking for Chicagoland Speedway in Joilet, Il. and the Nav could not find it.

This has been around for 6-7 years. They filmed Silvester Stalone's Indy Movie there.

This has not been the only location that it could not be found.

I would say that even though it's a Hyundai, they should have the best money can buy. Any $200-$300 portable nav system would have the latest software on it. I know because I have two, one in each of my other cars.

We have streets at least ten years old in Ocala, FL that do not show on the NAV.My dealer told me Alpine is the company uploading the software, and there are NO fixes in the works. I've used my Garmin several times because the address doesn't come up on the car.

I heard the movie was so bad the owner blew up the speedway out of embarrashment. As long as the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and Mexico are on your GPS you're good to go-- Just stay away from those areas.
