  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GPS Map data base is OLD!

We have streets at least ten years old in Ocala, FL that do not show on the NAV.My dealer told me Alpine is the company uploading the software, and there are NO fixes in the works. I've used my Garmin several times because the address doesn't come up on the car.

I have to laugh when you say that your NAV unit can't find streets in Ocala. Nobody can find streets in Ocala, or anywhere in Marion County! Reason???
Because all the streets in the city and county are numbered, and not just numbered, but many have the same number with different names following the number. I will give an example. (Not true streets, but just an example)
21st Street.
21st Street Road.
21st Hwy Street.
21st Street Blvd Road.
21st Lane Street Blvd.
21st Blvd Road.

Well, you get the idea. The whole address system in Marion County (Ocala) is crazy.

Another crazy thing about Marion County addresses is that you may have an address for a town in another county, however you live in Marion County.
Example. I have a friend that lives well within Marion County, on Hwy-42 however, his address is listed as Umatilla Florida which is Lake County. Whenever he buys a car, they always want to charge him the higher Lake County Sales Tax. He always has to show his Home Property Tax papers to prove that he really lives in Marion County. I don't blame this so much on the County, as it is a Post Office Address. I.E. the Post Office in Umatilla (Lake County) is the one that deliveres mail to his area of Hwy-42 in Marion County. Marion County does have a Marion County address for him, but it is not the type of address that mail, can be sent to. CRAZY.

Once Marion County and Ocala gives names to the streets, with no duplicates, it will be easier finding street address there.

JMHO

Well, you are correct of course, there are two SW 93rd lanes in my development in Dunnellon, about a mile apart!.
HOWEVER, my Garmin has never yet failed to find an address in Ocala, so it must be possible.

Follow up: I contacted Mapnsoft, the software company that is generating the map database for the Genesis. I was told that they had issued a "new" version in December 2009 to some of the dealers, but found out the database was bad. They are now in process of finishing another "new" version and it will be available at the dealers sometime this August. That is the same info I received from my dealer when then checked it out. Since I only purchased the car less than two weeks ago they will install the update without charge.

Sure would be nice if they could update JUST the Navi using just one disc, and not update everything in the DIS using three discs, taking three hours. I know the update is to the DIS Hard Drive, but there has to be a way to just do the Navi and not everything.

Ahhh,,,,,,,, on my previous Lincoln (touch screen), all I had to do was to buy a new disc ($149) remove the old disc and install the new disc. Took all of two minutes. It was that easy, and I got to keep the disc.
