  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone updated their gps map yet. Two questions how hard is to do and what is the cost?
I currently have a Garmin and I paid about $80 for lifetime updates. I have heard that it is quite expensive to update in car installed units. I update mine quarterly or more.

Last November I got a Garmin 40LM for $90 that included the GPS and free lifetime map updates (available quarterly online). Automaker GPS updates are expensive and a tremendous source of profit for dealers and manufacturers. You could say that GPS map updates are the inkjet cartridges of the car business.

Updates for built in units do not come out but every year or two. My Mercedes dvd update comes out every year but Genesis does not have an update available yet, as far as I know. MY 2011.

I updated the GPS on my previous 2009 Genesis. I was quoted $200 but eventually got it for free if I agreed to install it myself. The Install takes about 3 hours and you need a code that you get from the map update company. That was 2 years ago and the update gave me new roads that I don't have in my 2012 GPS!! I just discovered this and will be asking for an update at my next service visit.

I just discovered this and will be asking for an update at my next service visit.

I'd be very curious to hear if you were able to get an update during your next visit. Please share the results.

I'll definitely let you know how I get on.

Is there a web address we can check to find out what the latest update is?

I have a 2012 non R-Spec 5.0 which indicates a fairly current build. The number on it is 03.00.00 2011.05.27.00 .

Thanks

Ok so here's the thing, i updated the maps and the funny thing is the maps seem less accurate than they were before. i got lost in an area that i would really rather not have my genesis

Just got a notification from Garmin that a new quarterly map update is now available. I get free lifetime map updates every quarter for my Garmin 40LM that cost me $90 (for the GPS unit and the free lifetime map updates).

ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.

.. Or, you could just use an Android smartphone with Google maps that stay up-to-date in real time. (Works better than any Garmin/TomTom that I've ever used). Problem is that you have to deal with the second unit on your windshield. I don't mind waiting and using the built in system, but new maps are always nice when they come.

My point is that OEM car GPS units and map updates are a rip-off, even when you can get them (which is not that easy).

Last friday the Hyundai Service Manager at the dealer I use said there were no updates yet and the 2012 was no better or newer than my original:confused 2009 install.

I have a Garmin with lifetime updates and I do it quarterly to semi-annual and I have checked on and found actual updates such as near Hopkinsville KY in Tennessee.

Try another dealer, or call Hyundai Motor America.

I just had a new head unit installed on my 2012 3.8. I am noticing a lot of unnamed streets on my gps display since the change. My gps version number is 03.00.002010.04.30.10

Do I have an old GPS version? If so I'll ask the dealer to do an update. Thanks for any advice you guys can give.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I've already had my Navi updated twice since purchase !

Looks like you got an older head unit. Not in the car right now, so I do not recall the exact verison, but do know my 2012 4.6 is map info from 5/2011

I agree. Just called Map N soft and found that out. The good news is this head unit brought back the caller's name repeat when I make a call using voice recognition.

I asked my dealer about an update for my 2010 touch screen nav. They advised me to check with MapNSoft, which I did. For 2010 models their site lists only an update for the non-touch screen (Tech package) nav, and says to contact my dealer (!). So I emailed them and here's what they said:

Thank you for contacting the MNSoft Map Center.

The most current map update that will be available for your Touch screen Hyundai Genesis is version 04.04.15
The vehicle map version may be found under the ‘SETUP’ menu under system information.

Map updates are released every year in the fourth quarter.

The map update is installed via a DVD Media drive.
The map updates are performed via DVD provided by MNSoft through the DVD drive available in your Hyundai vehicle.
The map updates are available at our website: http://www.mapnsoft.com/ and also from our Call Center.

If you require further assistance, please contact the map center at 888-757-0010 or 1-714-775-0727 (PST 6am to 5pm M-F, 6am to 12pm Sat), or email info@mapnsoft.com.

I plan to give them a call and see if the info in the email is accurate; if so I'll order the update (my current version is 1.09.13, which is a fair amount older than 04.04.15).

Update - I just called. They said the info is accurate and I have ordered - $199. We'll see how the install goes.
