  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Visit the dealer and they can do the install. Not sure on price, as a while back Hyundai offered it free to certain owners, but expect $300 maybe. Try using the "search" function on here as there a TONS of threads regarding this.

I just looked on the first page. New user!

I spoke to a company called Map N Soft 1888-757-0010
They write the software on the Genesis Navigation System
I was told that as of today there is NOT an update for the GPS
The told me that an update was supposed to be released by the end of this month and that Authorized Dealers would need to be contacted to perform the update.

There is an update for your outdated version, but there probably will be another update coming soon, so you should probably wait for the next one. My version was the same date as yours, my updated version reads April 2010.

Are the updates just maps or added functionality ?

HYUNDAI MNSOFT America (also known as Map n Soft) is owned by Hyundai Motor Group, the parent company of Hyundai and Kia.

There are two types of map updates for the Genesis, those which must be installed by the dealer, and those which can downloaded by the owner and self-installed.

Starting in 2011, the Genesis Touch Screen GPS systems on the Premium Package can be downloaded and installed by the owner (about $200). 2009-2011 Tech Package GPS updates must be done at a dealer. Not sure about 2012, but probably the same as 2011.

You can check the availability of map updates here:

I bought the 2012 genesis 5.0 r-spec and my dealer said there isn't any update available and the information showed is so old that still indicate a restaurant was closed more than 8 years around the corner of my house.... Anyone here know if the have something more actual than what I have ???

There's an update released 1-Oct-2012 for both touch screen (prem) and DIS (tech) models.

GM v5 North America Map Update for Genesis (Touch Screen)- 6H02 $ 99.00 Yes

Yea, I had our '12 Genny at the dealer on Saturday, doing the mileage registration for the fuel economy overstastement, and I asked them about the updates. It's $99 and they charge labor. So it's $150 or more, and they say it takes "4 hours).

I checked on the Map N Soft website, and yes it's available, but we have the tech/prem package non-touch screen:

v5 North America Map Update for Genesis (Non Touch Screen, wheel control )- 6D01 MAP UPDATES ON SALE FOR $99.00 *Additional installation cost not included for Equus and Genesis models
(Available at your local Hyundai Dealer Only)

So its back to dealer.

I ordered the update for my 2010 touch screen GPS for $125 and installed it. The install went OK, with a couple of glitches that the MapnSoft support helped with. It took about 2 hours with the car on a charger. However, now my phone contacts won't load. MapnSoft says call Hyundai and Hyundai says go to the dealer. It's pretty frustrating as the dealer is electronically clueless and will just call Hyundai. Stay tuned.

Strangely, the contact list has now appeared on the Genesis' screen. I didn't do anything new to make this happen. If it sticks, it will save a long hassle with Hyundai.

Getting the new update installed tomorrow at the dealer, I wonder what new features are available for it. I remembered seeing the GPS show the speed limit and such now.

Please let us know how it goes and cost. Also, if you could list what is new that would be great.

Well, they are charging me $299 lol.. I hope it's worth it! It's at the dealer right now.

Should be crying - I was going to be charged $99 plus labor for a total of $150. Didn't do it. I have the same car as you do.

Well now they are saying my car's GPS is already up to date with the latest software? I thought V5 was the latest update? My car was only at like 4.9 or something before when I last checked. My car was created in June 2011 (2012 genesis), but I thought they just released an update in October of this year?

I took my Genny to the dealer in Sierra Vista, AZ early last week. They were so thoroughly confused it wasn't even funny. It took them an hour to FINALLY figure out the cost was going to be OVER $300, because it takes the 6 discs, USB and an unlock code! You can't just BUY that at the dealer or from Map n Soft.

Is it worth it? HELL NO, I can buy TWO DECENT Lifetime Map Garmins for THAT price! It's disgusting that, after buying a $40K+ car, that I have to pay $300 a YEAR for freakin MAP UPDATES? That's ludicrous. I am going to send my displeasure to Hyundai in a message and let them specifically know that my decision on ANOTHER Hyundai will definitely be swayed by MAP UPDATES. It's just so moronic on may levels. Both my wife and I are engineers (she's a software engineer, I'm a hardware/network engineer) and we are MORE than capable of updating our own vehicle's software. Geeessszh.....

If any of you are actually considering PAYING $300 or more for a ONE YEAR map update, you obviously have MORE money than brains. Sorry if I insulted anybody, but it is what it is. $99, sure I could live with that (and not be happy anyways), but $300 is nothing short of robbery.

There, I said it.

Say, if WE ALL complain to Hyundai.... :grouphug:

Tell ya what, I've always been pretty good at writing (letters) and getting what I want accomplished. I will draft a message and send it and I'll post it here for ya'll to rework into your own words. ANd SEND IT TO HYUNDAI!
