If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. GPS Update

Love the car, would only be better with decent GPS. If I had option of buying car without GPS (even not knowing how bad it was) I would have gone that route.

Agree. But love the cooled seats which you can't get in a non-GPS base model.

It took me about a month to get the GPS. It's counter-intuitive but over time its semi-usable, especially with a smart phone to augment the functionality.

a religious argument at some level

i've been alternating between extended periods using Google maps on the iPhone (in rental cars) and the dedicated GPS in the G when back in the office (for trips .LT. 200mi). if you would have asked me 6 mos ago i would have said the iPhone was much nicer, but after another 300mi round trip today, i'd take the G nav over the iPhone every time.

why? bigger display, freeway mode, integrated in-car audio, and the display doesn't get hot & die every 10-15 mins.

I've got a phone holder that plugs into the cigarette lighter, has two USB ports on it and the "wand" raises up the holder about 10". So I'm thinking of running the i-phone in parallel with the on-board nav. At least that way i don't have the Garmin up on the dash.

I generally use the iphone anyway for restaurants when I travel.

See, that sounds perfect. Do you have a link to this, or a pict?

What the navi lacks in intuition and usability, a smart phone makes up for. I used to be frustrated with this, but I'm over it now. Having a simple way to get the phone up and into easier view would sure help perfect the total package of this beautiful car.

I will take one and see about posting it - haven't posted photos on this forum yet.

First attempt with photos off of smugmug.

I do have a black lightening cable coming for my iphone to replace the white cable in the photos.

The head turns around & in the bottom photo you can see the second usb port.

I must have bought this through groupon or something like that because I did not buy it on ebay or amazon. I will add to this post if I can find where I bought it.

BUMP. I'm going to call them AGAIN tomorrow and keep calling them until they give me what they promised.

My car was in the shop for over a month waiting for an airbag part. I talked them into giving me a free map upgrade and they finally did. Then I find out that a newer map update was coming in a week or so. I asked my dealer to wait for the newest version to update me but they claimed they had already done it.
Lat week I received a postcard in the mail from Hyundai advertising the newest version AND they had a code on the card for a free upgrade.:)
When I take it in for this, I will make sure to tell them to put me on a battery charger. I could tell by my average MPG reading that they ran my car for the whole time.

well I called them again today; unfortunately the call center manager, "Mike" is no longer there, so I was told my case would get "Corey's" attention and he would call me back. SO far no call back.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Success! Of sorts. I spoke with the Genesis Customer Care folks and I am getting $200 to apply to the nav update. Wasn't "free" but it's a good enough discount. I also reiterated to them (which they note in my case file) that Hyundai has seriously dropped the ball on this entire Nav update process and there are still a lot of us out here "on the boards" that are pretty miffed at the whole thing.

Dear Mr. Rift,

I have not received any info from Hyundai about a new GPS update. What number you call for Genesis Customer Care that knows about this? Do they have a name for it?
And will it work on an 09, or are the systems different?

Thanks!

Bruce

I'm in the boat with Bruce. I have a 2010 4.6L w/Tec. Hope I can get some sort of "deal" for a navi update....... Cannot pay $345!! It's ridiculous to even think that is feasible for most folks. These are hard times.

Basically, the price for an 'upgrade' sucks. It seems NONE of us were told, at the time we purchased our luxury cars, that a GPS update would run in excess of $300 in some cases. I found that pretty sad, and I called them and complained. Now that was nearly a YEAR ago (December). I told them I have a Garmin, paid $150 for it, and I get free Maps and Traffic updates, no extra charge. If you have gotten a quote for an update from a dealer, and feel it is exorbitant, let them know.

Go back to the beginning of this thread and read through it. If it is something you wish to pursue, then read what I and others have done. Finally, the number is 877-378-8727 to open a case.

Mercedes does not tell you either but I expected the expense at the time of purchase. Also the price is about what my Acura dealer charged for a map update in 2008.

again, the TQ Nav upgrade applies to:

"GENESIS (BH) equipped with DIS(Jog Dial): Produced from Jun. 1, 2010 to Jan. 30, 2011"

TSB is 13-01-036.

The phone number you listed is for Equus customer care. Is that correct?

Yes, the number is the Equus Customer Care AND the Genesis Customer Care Center.

Phoenix, I believe.

SUCCESS! Sorry I've been offline for about three weeks; My last post was on Oct 20th on this issue. I went back to AZ on the 25th (flew) to pack up our belongings and drive back across the country (Sierra Vista to Lancaster, OH). To make a long story short:

I FINALLY received a $200 coupon at my home address in AZ from Hyundai. They had asked me where I wanted the service done so I told them "Lawley Automotive Group" in Sierra Vista. The coupon arrived early that next week (on the 28th or 29th). I called and made an appointment to get my car in for the nav update that week. They had the car on Thurs but were unable to do the update - they didn't have the correct software and had to contact Hyundai to get it. On Friday I called and the service manager had been in contact with Hyunday and said they had a new release they wanted Lawley to use. Well, we were planning on leaving SV to drive a U haul towing the Genny (on a trailer, not a dolly), we needed to get this done. On the following Monday, I got a call and service manager says he has the software on the way as he can't get it any faster from Hyunday. We got the U haul and got it loaded up fine, and were planning on leaving Friday morning (8 NOV). SO Thursday was the drop dead date - they got the software early in morning but we had to go to Tucson in car, and were back about 3:45 pm and he said they could get it done (he estimated an hour and a half, LOL). Anyways, we were able to drop it off and it did not get done until after 7 pm. LOL. But bottom line is that it got done. Finally.

but wait, there's more.

we got the Genny up on the tow trailer, and we pulled her across the country behind a 26' U Haul..no issues except a little bad weather in Missouri (rain, cold). We got the car off the trailer about 7:15 pm last Tues night and started it up and now we have the smell of burning rubber from under the hood. So we got it home and then had it towed today to Ricart Hyundai in Columbus...just in case its something more serious. Hyundai Roadside Assistance had a tow hauler out to us in 30 minutes. Woot Woot.

Update: Not impressed with the update. Still picks ignorant routing and business that I know have been around for several years don't show up in the address book. It does not have a granular a look when you want to search, like my Garmin. I'll post the version (raining and snowing outside now and don't have room to park it in the garage yet). Argggghhhh.....

Re: GPS Update - Route Planning Doesn't Use Secondary Roads

My 2012 Genesis 3.8V6 uses MapNSoft's Version 6D01, which I believe is defective, in that it does not use secondary highways when doing route planning, irrespective of which route planning option I have selected (i.e shortest, fastest, avoid toll roads, etc.) This prevents you from being able to use the GPS for turn-by turn driving instructions for many locations until you are closer to the destination than you are to the major highway that the software tries to direct you to. On a trip from Bellingham to Great Falls, Mt, I wanted to use the North Cascades Highway, which is considerably shorter than driving down to Seattle and cutting over to I-90, but the software would not find the shorter route. When I had traveled well over 100 miles east via Hwys 20, 97, 17,155 & 174 (about 100 miles from Spokane) the software finally started using the secondary road for route planning and stopped directing me to turn around and go down I-5 and take I-90 east. I have never seen anything so stupid in my life. Same issue driving from Bellingham to Cannon Beach, OR - software version 6D01 wants you to drive all the way to Portland, OR before heading to the coast. When I was about 70 miles from my destination the software finally stopped telling me to turn around and go through Portland. What is strange is the software shows the secondary road on the GPS as I am traveling on it, but refuses to use it for trip routing to my destination. My dealer says this is a known issue, and supposedly will be corrected when the GPS software version 7D01 is released. I just talked with a customer service rep at MapNSoft who says that this version is now available. [contact the HYUNDAI MNSOFT Map Center at 1-888-757-0010, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PST Monday through Friday]
Has anyone else had a similar issue with map routing using secondary roads, and has this software update corrected the problem?
Did Hyundai do the software update at no charge under warranty?

^^^ great info... Thanks. I to observe the same silliness with the GPS. Will have to use this not above to get the new version. Thanks.
