If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good afternoon G70 folks,

Yes, I admit that I do overthink and over analyze just about every aspect of the G70, and as I inch ever closer to finally getting one, one (hopefully) last question remains:

Gray or Black Interior?? (for 3.3T Prestige)

They both look great in the brand new car, but my concerns are:

1) how will either look a year from now, and
2 will the California sun fry my legs on hot days and dull the black interior over time?

Thanks for the advice!

Ed

I completely understand when it comes to overthinking things. My wife makes fun of me about it, as I'm always doing it. Simple grocery store run to get a new toothbrush? Nope. I have to consider several factors, and I end up spending way too long down the toothbrush isle. Lol.

Anyway, I like black because it's easier to keep looking clean. I really like the look of it as well. I also like how dark it makes things in there while driving. IMO, heat can be reduced by tinting the windows and using a good sunshade on the windshield while parked. No dulling with mine, but, I live in Oregon so most of the time it's not that sunny here. Summers do get pretty hot.

Can't go wrong either way, though.

Great insight as always. Thank you! Looking forward to soon changing my status from “looking” to “owner.”

A good ceramic tint will offer UV protection for your leather too. I can't speak to cars without it, but mine is totally fine. It sees a good deal of sun while I'm at work too. Just over a year in now, but I guess you can't really count the last couple months (working from home = garage kept)

Thank you. Looks like you have a nice dark window tint. I can see that it would make a difference.

That’s an interesting suggestion.
I believe it’s a “new” interior for 2020.
Next time I stop by our local dealer I’ll take. a peek at one and see how it looks “live”!

May I suggest brown?👌🧐
Looks great with some of the exteriors.

I went with gray. The black interior gave me a claustrophobic feeling. Light gray feels more open and lighter in feeling and also reflects light rather than absorbing it. My previous car was ivory leather and I worried about cleaning but it was no trouble at all. So gray it was for me. I had a first and second choice exterior color but interior was one choice alone.
Try sitting in each choice at a dealer and sense the differences. I did and it sold me on the gray.

I considered this so much. I knew I wanted a red exterior but couldn’t make up my mind on the black or gray interior. Went and sat in both car configurations. In my eyes the gray stitched interior was a knockout but it was so light and I worried about cleaning it a lot. The dealer through in scotch guard treatment for the interior and the rest was history.Interior 1.webp

Love the brown! Wish they had it available for the sport trim.

Those seats look great. Thank you for the advice!

I got the black interior because it was the only option available with the sport package, but if I'm honest, I've always felt the cream interior looks better.

I always had cars with light interiors, despite having young kids. It is a matter of taste and I managed to keep all my interiors like new by cleaning the seats 2 or 3 x a year. It barely takes 30 minutes each time and makes the seats look like new. Black seats are not cleaner, they just hide the dirt better but it's there. I think that the "hard to maintain" stigma of light color seats is overhyped, it is not that hard. My car is about one year old and the light grey seats still look like new. Unlike other light interiors I had in the past, I had absolutely no transfer from jeans on my driver seat. My recommendation would be to buy whatever you like best and in any case, buy a decent leather cleaner (I use Lexol and love it, it keeps the seats matte and looking like new, I occasionally add a coat of Zaino "Leather in a bottle" to protect them)...

Yes. Too bad it was only available last year on the special edition.

Look wise you can't go wrong with either. The "grey" (cream) interior is surprisingly easy to keep clean. Besides using the ventilated seats, get a nice solar tint and it'll help keep the Cali sun from frying you.

I’m with Todd on this. Love black. Even here in Phoenix it doesn’t get that hot with tint and a shade. Plus just Prestart the car with the app and cool it off.

Black is the only color of my choice and I've been lucky enough to get the exterior color to match it.
With only one exception though thru my 40+ years of car ownership.
My 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger had green vinyl seat. :(

Gray really is the perfect choice. Black gets dusty looking. You see ever speck.
