  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all -- checking in for the first time in 6+ months. Approaching 55K miles on an almost-three-year-old Genesis, and still love the car.

And I found yet another reason to appreciate it yesterday. I was in the right lane of a four-lane street, going at or just above the 50 MPH speed limit. A large van was stopped in the left lane, waiting to turn, when a small sedan coming the other way decided to take a left in front of him, despite his view of my lane being completely blocked by the van.

So, all of a sudden, I have a broadside view of this sedan, less than 100 feet in front of me, prompting me to hit my brakes with both feet.

Have you ever experienced the phenomenon whereby time slows in a moment like that, and it seems like you process ten seconds of thoughts in just one or two seconds? I had one of those moments. Given my speed and his proximity, I was absolutely convinced I would hit this guy at a significant velocity, but to my surprise and relief, the Genesis stopped VERY quickly (and in a completely straight line), just in time to afford me an up-close view of the other car clearing my lane, a few inches in front of my now-stopped car. No impact.

I had a similar experience years ago with my previous car, an '02 530i Sport, that allowed me to avoid being in the middle of a seven-car sandwich on a freeway. But based on yesterday's experience, the Genesis' brakes appear to be every bit as effective as my old BMW (for a helluva lot less money, too), and for that I'm grateful.

Hope all is well with the old-time posters here.

Nice of you to stop by, oldtimer!
Quick question:
Are these the original brakes? With 55K?

Bout time you stop back in:p

Welcome back. Are the brakes the originals?

I would guess they are, I just had my 60k check up and the brakes still have 50% life left (according to the dealer check off sheet).

One feature that I believe the Genesis package is equipped with is the Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist System (BAS). The EBD system ensures that all wheels are getting equal and appropriate brake force and the BAS function senses a panic stop and fully applies the brakes for you, even if you are not fully applying them yourself.

The activation of the BAS system is likely in this case and would help explain why you're car was able to stop even though you did not think you would be able to. I believe it is based on how fast and hard the brake pedal is applied....someone else may know more about the inner workings of the system....The EBD system is likely responsible for the straight line stopping you describe.

These operate in conjunction with the ABS system which modulates the brake force to any wheel that is decelerating too fast relative to the other wheels, indicating that it is about to stop turning.
