  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi,

I have a G70 i'm getting a front splitter and want to do a full chrome delete, Has anyone had luck either plasti dipping or spray painting their grill? Not sure what the best option would be for the best look. Figured i'd try to get some ideas! I already blacked out the side gills and back emblems with a black Lip spoiler. I can post pics of that if anyone is interested

i think the main problem with this is the front sensor. Can't really spray over that. Although I've heard of people using translucent paint on that part. No idea how it affects the sensor capability. Post pics!

Painting the grill would be no big deal. You would first have to scuff it with a Red 3M pad going in and out of each opening from the front and the rear. Then a coat of adhesion promoter followed by a coat of high end primer, I would tint it close to the color I was painting the grill. Then once again scuff it with a 3M scuff pad again, same as before but using a finer grade. Wash it a few times until it is very clean, blow it dry. Do not set it In the sun or allow it to air dry, water spots will develop and paint does not like water spots.
Spray color first from the back and then the front, two very light coats and then a third slightly heavier coat. Finish with the best quality clear you can find (for durability). Either gloss, my choice, or matt if that is your choice.
Not a big deal but to do it properly it will cost more than you think due to labor and material cost.
Or spray it with 2K rattle can in the color you want, and then watch it peel pretty quickly from normal use.

The front "sensor" is not a sensor. It is just a plastic cover that prevents damage and things flying into the actual sensor. I painted mine with no issues.
You can search the forums and find some info on it. I posted about it recently.
