GV60 Canadian Pricing Estimations

Announcement.
  • Larger zero-emission vehicles (e.g., sports utility vehicles, minivans and pick-up trucks) must have a base model Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price under $60,000. Higher priced versions of these vehicles, up to a maximum of $70,000, are also eligible.

So looks like the performance Gv60 will have no rebate

I believe our vehicles will not get the "larger" classification as an SUV unless they intend to change the rules to contain 5 passenger vehicles. Under the current rendition of the iZEV program we would only qualify for the same $55,000 base and $65,000 max-spec version as a regular sedan would.

I wouldn't be that surprised if they changed the definitions of what constitutes an "SUV" in the program but right now it's for 7 or more seats.

And look at that... coincidentally, the Audi Q4 etron, with Technik package comes in at...

MSRP*$ 59,950.00
Optional equipment$ 8,400.00

Total $68,350

It's totally still possible the GV60 Performance would - Genesis could spin this the way they do with the EV6. Even the $62,000 GTLine-2 trim is eligible under the $55k limit right now because the additonal $7k is in "options" and the regular trim line is $54,999. It's 100% possible they could try and pull some trickery and say Advanced is 65k lets say, and the Performance is an "option" and not a new trim line or something.

Currently that larger category to include trucks does not exist...

They did it only based on seats before. That can not be the case with Trucks moving forward. I think the categories will have to get rejigged.

I definitely hope so- I believe in the announcement though they suggest the medium and heavy duty vehicle changes will be announced in the summer. Since these iZEV changes aren't even taking place immediately, I wonder if the announcement over classifying vehicles/vans/trucks/etc will get talked about only at the time of these other announcements in the summer. (They did announce the April 25 day for this expansion to take place, but I don't think there was much other details about qualifications beyond that)

I’ve had some experience with government policy, I suspect the people at Genesis had a good idea of what was coming and have been thinking about how to make the most of it. I’m optimistic.

Also in the announcement:

To accelerate the manufacturing and adoption of cleaner cars, the Government of Canada will also put in place a sales mandate so at least 20 per cent of new passenger vehicles sold in Canada will be zero-emission vehicles by 2026, and at least 60 per cent by 2030, on the road to 100 per cent by 2035.

The economics of buying an EV vs. ICE will be very different in three years. Brands will need their EV sales to subsidize ICEs, so we can expect EV prices to drop substantially on a comparative basis.

If it is to be believed, a person I know who says he has a insider at Genesis head office said that they are in fact going to introduce a single motor GV60 to capture the soon to be announced revised Federal rebate limit of $60,000.00.

He said prices will be Standard RWD $59,999.00
Advanced AWD $64,999.00
Performance AWD $74,999.00

Announcement soon.

Time will tell if his info is accurate, when we see the new rebates tomorrow.
So far this claim holds up. Now the question remains; does GV60 qualify as an SUV to be able to benefit from the $60k base model price if RWD is introduced? On the genesis website, GV60 does show up under the SUVs category.

I’m hopeful, but it’s not a slam dunk. The current regs differentiate by number of seats, so we may still need some good fortune.

Ah yes, forgot about the # of seat stimulation.

It looks like 5 seat SUVs starting at less than $60K will be eligible. The Transport Canada site shows the Q4 e-tron as eligible, and it has five seats and a $59,950 starting price.

The Performance GV60 will take a very low sticker or other surprise to be eligible though as the max price tops out at $70K, and with a different powertrain it would be a tough sell to claim it was just an option package, rather than a different Trim level.

I went to Audi today and seller said with this increase price already schedule on model 2023 I can get only basic model with incentive and 2 years waiting time...big no... Anyway it's just ID 4 deluxe .....

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
All I interesting comments for sure.

Has anyone else heard from a local dealer that their vehicle is actually in production?

I’ll be watching the Feds tomorrow for sure.
I saw email at my dealer that my Performance was scheduled to go in production week before last and I'd have a VIN by now but nothing yet. I am #1 on my dealer list. There was a #2 & #3 on email but they aren't scheduled until next month. I should have taken a photo!!!!!

This whole pricing situation is very frustrating. I went into the Genesis dealer in Toronto.
The sales manger said they just had a head office virtual sales meeting with all the regional sales managers yesterday, discussing price points versus the competition.

He said from those discussions they now feel they can go as high as $69,999 up from $64,999 for The Advanced and $79,999 for Performance. He said pricing is still very much fluid as they assess just how high they can push the market to go.

At those prices he said they expect to lose 50% of the current 630 preorders to date. But they only have 300 available for Canada in 2022 so it would be a sell out anyway.

It’s a shame that the launch of what appears will be a nice vehicle has turned out to be such a mess.
Questions of pricing aside - as nothing was shared at the time of order - putting a deposit down on a vehicle in February that is advertised to arrive in the first half of the year, and have in show up in November (maybe?) is unacceptable.

Wow those sure are some numbers. At 80k I have to imagine at least half of those customers are gone and probably have quite a few upset people too. I’d be out 100% at 80k, no contest otherwise.

Well I’m. It sure Genesis wants my opinion or is planning to ask it but to me these numbers seem like a huge mistake and will alienate the customers in the very near future. Sure this will sell out now, but I don’t know where they would go for the EGV70 later this year. I can’t see that staring at $75-$85 and up and then when the GV80 comes out it’s a base price of $100+? I’m not sure Canadians are ready for too many $100k plus vehicles. So if you gouge now and then have to reduce later to make room for other models (and what car company is dropping MSRP year over year right now) or offering large discounts down the road to move models which significantly devalues the value of the brand’s image and the models. Seems like a risky play to me. Especially because that $5k increase could also mean no $59,995 single motor RWD option as $10k is a big mid level jump this potentially increases customer cost by $10,000 if the $59, $65 rumors were true to get the rebate for RWD and advance package

Its very hard to understand whether all these assumption has any value at all.
The sale manager you talk to, if he confirm pricing then it's another thing.
If speculation this, or price setting versus the market adjustment is a thing nowadays. Genesis has failed to win all the people who have put their reservation.
The pricing setting has been taking way way way too long, and it's with such long delay, there was no,

At $80k I’m out. I’ve exclusively driven Audis for the last 10+ years as daily drivers and the GV60, and possibly eGV70, look perfect for our needs. Genesis needs to be very careful with their pricing strategy. At the $80k price point I’m waiting for the upcoming Audis built on the new PPE platform, namely the Q6 etron. The thought of a $80-90k eGV70 is laughable.
