  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, this is my first post and i have just purchased my first Geneisis, GV70 EV in Sydney Aus which i believe is the Prestige by default. I have owned a lot of cars and have never been more impressed, i love it soooo much!
I am running the OTTOCAST U2Air Pro Wireless CarPlay Adapter which is working great but i dont like to leave it plugged in as the USB power plug in the charger compartment seems to constantly provide power.
Question: Is there a 12V or 5V connection point that is only active when the car is in use? I am afraid of long term draining of the EV battery as i often go overseas for travel and leave the car garaged. I am happy to dive into the cars wiring to find an appropriate access point as this issue would also apply to a Dashcam i want to install.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks.
Shawn

From my understanding, Australia got the Spring update (with wireless AA and CP) a couple of weeks ago, so an adapter is no longer needed. I may have misunderstood, so you might want to check.

Hi Enrique, mine is a 2023, I dont have wireless unfortunately. Thanks for the response.

It's an update to the existing software and includes previous model years, not just new ones. Search the forum, many existing owners have been salivating for this update. Better yet, just update your software. Owners in the U.S. are still waiting.

Ahhhh, i will look it up, very exciting! The question still stand for connecting other accessories that just need power, like the dashcam. I may need to move threads for that. Thankyou!

The draw of a dashcam and wireless CP dongle are negligible when compared to the size of the battery. A quick estimate is 5W draw between the two of them which is probably on the high side. Let’s say the SOC of the battery 25 kWh which is roughly 30%, that is 25000 Wh which means that the car could power these devices for 200+ days even with a low SOC. I leave both powered.

All excellent points Jaws, thanks. Being my first EV im a bit paranoid but the numbers dont lie, my anxiety levels have dropped. Thanks

I believe that your USB port, just like mine, powers down when the car goes to sleep. It sleeps several minutes after you last disturb it. The exception for you is that it does not sleep while the car is being charged.

Plug something into the USB that lights up. Make sure you can see it from outside the car without opening any doors. Leave it and wait about half an hour and come back (be sure that your smart key is somewhere else) and I bet you will see that the light is off.

Just unplug it while you’re gone

Thankyou to all
- I have updated the software and the Apple Carplay via bluetooth works perfectly! So Happy!
- I have test as per your suggestion and the USB power does automatically turn off after 10 min (approx). Thanks.

It's via WiFi, not Bluetooth. Bluetooth is only used as a handshake to start the connection. Once wireless Carplay has started, you can completely disable Bluetooth on your phone and it will continue to work just fine. (You will have to re-enable it at the beginning for it to work next time.)

Hi joegr, thanks for the info. This is likely a dumb question but why cant the Aussie GV70 EV connect to a Data stream WiFi and is there any way of getting the Genesis phone app running that is available in the USA?

I don't know what the hardware of your infotainment system supports or what the manufacturer of said system is willing to support in software.
To get the phone app working, assuming the car's hardware would support it, you'd need the right software done on the car's system, a data agreement with at least one of your local carriers, and for Genesis to set up servers over there to support this.
