  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 Rearview Mirror Open?

I would worry hanging the Radar Detector under the mirror. It's very visible and will invite Smash and Grabs. I've lost a few over the years.

I just recently installed my Valentine1 V1 with the BlendMount and Mirrortap on my GV70 3.5T. The install went pretty smoothly and the wiring guide mentioned on this thread worked flawlessly. The "white" wire looked more grey to me but I confirmed the taps with a voltage meter before proceeding. Getting the BlendMount installed and configured was only a little annoying but hoping I don't have to mess with it again.

One thing that is unfortunate is the Valentine1 is constantly (or near-constantly) firing the laser warning. I'm guessing this is due to some of the electronics onboard the GV70. Ended up having to just disable the laser detection completely on the RD and go without it. Just FYI in case anyone else is thinking about mounting it there.

If anyone is interested, I can also snag some pictures and throw them up showing the finished mount.

Anyone have a shot of the harness? I'm trying to do something a bit more complicated than a radar detector.
More complicated like…? The people want to know!

I ran into that with my V1 in my Jeep when I mounted the Blackvue dash cam too close to the detector. It would make the V1 go crazy. I moved the cam an inch further away and it worked fine. May be just a matter of angling the detector slightly.

Do you intend to upgrade to the V1 Gen 2 anytime soon? Think it would make a difference in the falsing?

I don't, but I was thinking about that after I was hitting all the false laser alerts. I haven't really read into the differences of the new version, probably would be hard to justify the price tag of nabbing the new version.

I didn't even think of playing around with the mount positioning, could be worth a shot. Although I never really found the laser alerts to be that useful. Most of the time they are false positives getting triggered by another car's safety system, and then they are true positives it would be too late since they'd already have your speed.

I didn't take the car for a longer drive after installing the mount and mirror tap and it seems like there is some odd behavior happening. When the auto start-stop kicks in the radar detector is power cycling after the engine restarts. Applying pressure to the mirror stem in certain directions is also causing the same, although I might need to step up to the larger size taps to get a more snug fit to address this.
Has anyone else experienced issues with a mirror-tap and the auto start-stop?

Did you try it before with the cord to the power port? If so, did you let the engine stop-start?
I wonder if the detector is rebooting due to the voltage drop caused by the starter? If so, then it would happen with the mirror tap, or the power port, or any other way to wire it in.

I tapped into the fuse panel, not the mirror and had the same power cycling. Needed to get a BOB from Valentine to solve the problem. BOB is a brown out booster. Essentially a capacitor to keep the voltage up over the momentary droop of engine restart.

Ah, thanks so much. That should be a relatively easy fix!

The middle cover where you see cutouts is actually a snap-on plate. Pry it off carefully with a small flat head screwdriver. Once out, you will see the wiring harness cable plugged in. Pinch the harness tab and pull the harness. The ground is the black wire and the ignition power is the white wire.
Can confirm the wire colors and a big thanks to Darken. Just did my Uniden R4 and Blendmount install. You don't have to buy the $46 Mirrortap package. I bought the $14.99 one and it worked like a champ. Link below:

My radar detector (Escort 9500ix) has GPS for false positive database, but the mount leaves the unit under the mirror shroud on the windshield and it never gets a good view of the sky, so the GPS seldom connects.

Do any of you have this same issue?

Another very good YouTube video that shows how to do the MirrorTap wires. This is a better video that actually shows you how to insert the wire taps.

Another MirrorTap installation video
Thank you so much for the tip man I was looking around for the correct diagram and I followed your method and it worked great
