  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Model Type
Genesis GV70
I am seriously considering purchasing a GV70 but concerned about the reliability. I have seen some horror stories regarding the electronics, as well as mechanical issues. However, it's hard to tell if these represent just a small percentage of the GV70 population or is something more serious. This brings me to ask for input from the group. If you would be kind enough to respond with the following: Model Year, 2.5 or 3.5 and just a single word or two describing the issue. (For example - 2024, 3.5 - turbo charger or something like 2022, 2.5 transaxle.) It will also be helpful to hear from those with no issues...again just a brief comment like 2022, 2.5 no issues. TIA

See signature for year and model.
Zero issues in 2+ years.

2021 GV80. Just hit 60k miles. No probs, only oil changes, tire rotations (2nd set of 20" Primacies, but probably will go with Pirellis next), and brake fluid flush at 60k. Local independent mechanic's inspection says original brakes, diff fluids and plugs good til 90k. I did buy an extended bumper to bumper warranty from AutoPom!, good for 5 more years or 120k, just for peace of mind. Its cancellable (@ $120/mo) and transferable. Most complaints here are about dealer servicing. If under warranty, use the dealer. If out of warranty, use your most trusted local guy. I would say almost half the complaints are user error not understanding the functions, settings, or having erroneous expectations they could have researched before buying. There ARE legit horror stories, but they are in the vast minority. Most people just get in and drive.

2024 2.5 Advanced - 38k miles
Brake rotors replaced. First under warranty, then out of pocket at 35k miles
Seat heater stopped working - Warranty
Lumbar support losing air - Warranty
Differential whine at 3800, TSB at 6000, then replace differential at 38k miles - Warranty
Rims replaced at 33k miles - clear coat/color peeling - Warranty
Multiple recalls for various items that never affected my driving the vehicle

Dealer has been great to work with. Love the car, but I wouldn't buy another.

I hear your pain. Can't blame your conclusion either. Sometimes it does seem like the luck of the draw, but it really shouldn't be that way when you spend that much on something. Small consolation but at least you are not like some here with a litany of problem and a crummy dealer experience to boot. Hope Genesis will get to Lexus quality on both scores but a good ways to go yet....

One other consideration. If buying used, try to find a CPO. If not, and/or if you plan to keep it a long time, consider a reputable extended warranty ("exclusionary" policies are the best as they cover more--be sure nav/electronics are covered too). Expect to pay 10 to 15% of car's value. I got one for my 60k-mile GV80 that goes another 60k and 5 years (or 120k total and thru 2030) for $3500 (@ $120/mo) -- cancellable and transferable anytime. After considerable research, I chose AutoPom as the vendor.

And, as you have probably read, dealers vary widely as to their service and helpfulness.
A great local Genesis shop is ideal, but a trusted local independent guy is a close second (and much better than a subpar shop of any ilk.)
