  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 Rivals

I'm currently shopping RDX A spec and Advance specs (2019 used models ~ $35k) and comparing to the lower trim GV70's. It does feel like Genesis missed the mark on pricing being a bit to high by ~$5k across the board. It's a great looking vehicle inside and out but based upon the initial reviews the handling, powertrain, and transmission performance leave a bit to be desired from at the $65k mark.
We have an RDX, and I can assure you there is simply no comparison to the GV70. I would have liked it to have been several thousand lower, but Genesis will sell volumes at this price. It's 10k and 20k less than its main competitors, GLC and Macan, respectively.

  • Porsche Macan S/ GTS: best driving dynamics, nickel and dimed on options (which I’m ok with because I like strippers but my wife’s not), too small trunk ruled it out. Questionable value if you care about the options, decent value if you don’t.
One of the best double-entendres I've seen to date, whether it was intentional or unintentional.

So are you after lower trim gv70 or 65k mark top trim?
lower trim is way lower than 65k and much more powerful than RDX, rear biased AWD is a major difference as well
In fact 2.0L rdx advance is the same 48k msrp as 2.5L gv70 with similar options, I did not see any mention about "handling" package like lexus offers
700 miles in, I still think all I would change about my gv70 is tires, this is not a track racer but it handles winding roads very very well

If anyone recently drove both cars please comment on handling in sport mode

We just sold our off-lease 2019 RDX Advance and I would agree with Davep—it's a very nice car, but one step down in luxury (a great value at under $50k). Even though some here want to bash my Volvo XC60, it's always at the top of the list for compact luxury crossovers and in the same price range as GV70. A strong sales argument is that it will attract XC60, RDX, Lexus RX, Audi Q5, BMW X5 buyers too (a big pool)

I have 743 miles on my GV70, and I think it drives excellent and looks great. I've watched and read some of the reviews, and they're mostly positive. It's weird when the vehicle is not meeting someone's price point, they will say it is overpriced, but if you build the GV70 Sports Prestige and compare it to the competition, it comes out cheaper, and it did for me when I was shopping for an equivalent equipped Audi SQ5.

Mercedes always seems to be a step behind with options and they ( like Porsche) nickel and dime you to death. Not having vented seats on a top trim is a huge omission these days. I'm sure the next gen GLC will be really nice but by the time it comes out the whole market will be very different as the effects of this chip shortage will be felt for a very long time. They will most likely offer a hybrid version or even all electric as we are all being pushed that way unfortunately.
The problem with Mercedes, and most the brands, is they have their trim levels, and then a bunch of add on options like the ventilated seats and other things youd expect that easily push the price well above the "starting" msrp for that trim level. Its why if you want one of the germans, its best to have them order one vs picking off the lot. Its just a way for them to say "see our top of the line car is cheaper than the competitors"

Its one of the things i really like about Genesis. You know exactly what you are getting with each trim level.

My last car was a Volvo XC60. Really nice and comfortable ride and loved the beige interior and seat comfort.

Agree. It's annoying to look at dealer inventory for Mercedes, see the sticker price and then have to go through the window sticker for each vehicle to see what options it has. Also noticed that a lot of M-B at dealerships don't include the full safety tech options.

I currently have an '18 SQ5 P+. Contemplating going to '22 SQ5 Prestige. Cross shopping GV70 3.5 Prestige. As far as pricing, the 2 are almost identical if spec'd out comparably. However, most folks will add Napa Leather ($1000), sport suspension ($3000), carbon fiber inlay ($600) black optic ($600) and in my case, dynamic steering ($1150). That all takes the SQ5 about $4500 over GV70. BUT if you back out the sport susp (which in fact is an air bag), the 2 cars are very close to equal.
After about a 35 mile test on the GV, I found the cars to be different. GV70 w/all its gee gaws, fluff and wonderfully advanced cabin technology to be more at the luxurious end. Most of my test was done on twisty backroads in the 35 - 50mph range. The car was reasonably stable, steered well and rode smoothly. But it ain't no Audi (as my grandmother would say). This is not a knock on the GV....just a differentiation between the two. If I was in the market for a second suv for a wife, hands down I'd go with the GV. The Audi leans a tad more towards the more traditional, conservative look - both outside and in the cabin. But the GV does not have the same powerplant/transmission mating that really takes it to a higher level that Audi has come close to perfecting....Audi's 8 speed ZF box is quicker and smoother shifting than the GV's. And while A has 25 less hp than the GV, it gets to 60 mph much quicker - 4.7 sec. All while being about the same weight.
So the choices come down to luxury (both perceived and real) or a tad more sportiness. My guess is that I will end up with the Audi. No knock on the GV.
BUT (isn't there always a but - lol), I do want to take another test drive - an awful lot going for the GV.

The Audi was my backup choice in case I could not get a deal done on the GV70. I know it's faster and probably sportier, but I'm happy with the GV70 how it handles and drives. The GV70 has whip appeal, and people point and stare and ask questions about the GV70. Unfortunately, Audi does not even have a remote start, and let's not get into the fake exhaust tips.

About the fake tips-lol. More time spent on the Audi forum re folks grousing about them.
I have a similar thing though with the 21" wheels on the GV. Not sure if someone was in a psychedelic haze or suffering through a horrendous hangover when he/she designed them. I've posted a query as to the the spec on the wheels. The GV is still in the hunt for me, but not with those wheels. I'm willing to swap them out if I go Genesis direction.

I'm not sure why so many hate the 21' wheels so much. They are just basic 5 spoke mags with some texture added in. I've seen way worse that's for sure. I think they are very unique and good looking. Easy to clean as well.

I like the 21" on the GV70, but to each it's own. I have no interest in the Audi any longer.

The interior of the GV70 is more luxurious than the MDX, much less the RDX.

The GV70 has more tech than the MDX as well.

As for Audi, while it has the advantage when it comes to powertrain (at least when it comes to the initial burst of acceleration - HMG always throttles initial end torque to prolong the life of the transmission), and is flatter thru the corners, always found Audis to be a bit clinical.

In comparison, BMWs (when they get it right) tend to have a more visceral feel when taking corners.

Used to really like Audi designs, but they've gone backwards with their latest designs (worse grille shape and grille treatment and too many unnecessary design details).

Let's not speak of BMW's latest design durection.

The new 2 Series coupe is actually alright, but too many unnecessary lines for the head and taillights.

If for some reason I don’t buy a 2.5T Advanced when they get here, the 2022 NX300 is very compelling - overall features not very different than the GV70.

I've now convinced myself that some early/pre preduction models did not have the same level of tint, if Any. This Brunswick Green is the best example that caught my eye, looks to not have any tint and makes the wheels pop.. I'm even considering stripping and re clear coating as an option. If I could only buy my favorite KS3 metheylene choride based stripper.

This is very close appearance wise to what I saw & drove at the dealer.

Yea I notice some wheels are dark tinted and some looked similar to brighter non polished chrome.

I'm pretty sure there is only one version of these wheels..
