  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 Rivals

Well, far be it from me to defend Mercedes on a Genesis site, but comparing them to BMW designs is….. unkind.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned here is maintenance, so maybe it isn't a big deal to most. But after driving several BMWs, a Range Rover, and now a Jaguar, they've all included regular scheduled maintenance during the lease period. I guess I'm feeling a bit entitled, and don't want to lease a car that doesn't include maintenance. That has ended up ruling out Audi and Mercedes for me, although I really like the Q5 Sportback and GLC Coupe...

There is no maintenance required other than oil changes during your lease period.

The only vehicle I wished I had looked at that I didn't was the BMW X4 M40i. At first I didn't like the tall coupe design but they have made that thing look pretty mean. Still there are two in the Phoenix area and they tip the scales at 70k mostly loaded.

As much as I've been disappointed by BMW'S design direction (and this was before the snout), it's not like Merc has be much better.

Not that the E Class was anything to look at before, but with the FL, looks like an amorphous blob up front.

The EQS concept was pretty futuristic; the production model, however, looks like you're driving a dorky looking bar of soap.

Oil changes, yes, but they also change the brake fluid, do multipoint inspections, replace the cabin filter, etc. For these things, they manage to charge a couple thousand over the term of the lease...

I did find out that both Audi and Mercedes offer a prepaid plan for maintenance at a cost of $1,000-1,200, and if you roll it into the cost of your lease, they increase the RV by 1%, which offsets some of that, so it ends up only adding about $12-15/mo to your lease cost. Not bad. FYI, for anyone cross-shopping these brands.

You know, I have been thinking SUV, SUV like all of America, and then I thought, what about wagons? They handle better in turns anyway. Anyway, here’s a Volvo V60 XC that I specced out on their build site. Not bad with all the goodies for $55 MSRP.

The used market is obviously weird right now, especially for SUVs. Given that we don’t need a tow vehicle I was more focused on practical fun SUV alternatives. Limiting myself to more recent cars with warranties that was more like Audi S5/ S7, Mercedes E350 wagon (does tow, great warranty if CPO), VW R, etc.

In the SUV realm I was on the lookout for a Cayenne Diesel, 2015 or 2016. These were Dieselgate cars and many were not put into service until after they were fixed. In that case Porsche covered them with an unlimited mile bumper to bumper warranty that’s still in effect for a couple more years (depending on the date placed in service). There was a time you could find great deals on these cars… My other favorite used SUV is the Cayenne GTS- might be my recommendation to you if you can swing it (both the entry and maintenance) as I don’t think there’s a better “Swiss Army Knife” car in existence…
Can you direct me to a link with the Porsche warranty? I’m contemplating a 2015 diesel Cayenne... TIA 🙏🏻

Unfortunately it’s nor quite as simple as that, as Porsche sent individual letters to owners and it depends on the placed in service date, but this thread will bring you up to speed: Link

You can buy a cabin filter for $20. I bet you 99% of Audi drivers do not change the brake fluid at 20,000 MI. Even if you did you would just pay for the brake fluid change and oil change you don't need to do all those silly checks for $1,500. My point is to look at the GV70 service manual there is nothing to service until 48,000 miles all you are paying for is an oil change. Any brand that provides free maintenance builds it into the price so you are paying for it one way or another nothing is free.

Ok, so maybe I wasn’t clear. Genesis includes maintenance for the term of the lease, so no concerns there. It was in considering Mercedes and Audi that I realized they weren’t including it.

Gonna say goodbye and best wishes to you all. Just bought a top spec Audi A4 Allroad wagon. I do think the GV70 is beautiful. In my city, though, the dealer falls short of the standard I’d want for a luxury vehicle. If the GV70 had all the tech goodies available in the 2.5 I might still be on the fence. But the Allroad wagon just has the complete package I am looking for at this time. Genesis is doing really impressive things at the design level. Good luck to you all and may the road stretch out beautifully before you!

Very nice selection

Prices are going nuts here in Phoenix. I wanted to see what the GLC AMG 43's were going for and there are pre-owned versions with 5-10,000 miles at dealers going for 75k. Just insanity.

Nice choice. Let us know how you like it.

A thread for the likes of cars in the same class as the GV70 such as the X3, GLC, Q5, RDX, etc- or whatever people are cross-shopping with the GV70.

Lexus just debuted their new NX today, and while I'm sure the GV70 will dust it in every manner, the hybrid powertrains are interesting especially the PHEV version.

i'm on my forth lexus ,,,great cars ,,,smooth and quiet ,,,,,but read the new nx in that top hybried is going to be hard to get ,,,just like rav4 prime ,,,no dealer has one

Range Rover Velar is getting some mild tweaks next year. IMO this is the closest vehicle to the Genesis in its focus on style and comfort over sharp cornering, and the only one that can really give the GV70's interior a run for its money.
