Those days are gone. The V-8 was a hefty up-charge in a competitive market. Aside from a bunch of enthusiasts here, does it matter? It is both a cost and EPA regulation thing driving the decision. I bet 75% of SUVs never see the pedal pushed more than half way, another 23% maybe once a month passing or going on the highway.Yeah, a little disappointed in the 0-60 time... Should've kept the V8 in the lineup. I hope the G80 isn't this slow... I'm pretty sure my old 2011 Sonata turbo was as fast as this.
Put me in the 75% group. As if a second faster is ever going to change my life...I bet 75% of SUVs never see the pedal pushed more than half way, another 23% maybe once a month passing or going on the highway.

Maybe it will happen when NASCAR adds an SUV category and the image changes. .
I'm saying that Charlie's test is much slower than what the actual specs claim to be, and should be taken with a grain of salt. Everything should be taken with a grain of salt until the car actually arrives.Slack, are you saying that it more probably will be under 6 sec as was talked about in carscoops?
What would you do to compete in speed? Add a few thou $ for a bigger engine? Take away some features to reduce weight? How many sales will you gain/lose with those changes? And for those buyers, there's the 2.5T. When you buy the fast one, you expect it to be fast. At $66k a fully loaded base engine X5 is cheaper than the 3.5T Prestige and over a full second quicker to 60 than what Charlie got. You'll get a similarly spec'd car for $5k less than the GV80 and go faster. An X5 V8 will do 4.6s and isn't that much more than the 3.5T Prestige.
It's possible that Charlie's launch sucked but really, just stomping the pedal should've got him close and be off a few tenths of a second. If they're building a competing product, don't you think it should.... compete? Especially when the competition's base model is quicker than the fully loaded?

Surely you have some ideas.
Aside from a bunch of people like those here, does it matter? If you pull up to your house or work in a new car good chance people around will say "Nice car" How many ask what the 0-60 time is? If you randomly asked 100 people what the 0-60 time is on their car, how many will know or care? Ask them what the top 3 reasons are for choosing their present car. How many will answer 0-60 time?
It's going to be embarrassing to be driving a top of the line GV80 when a fully loaded I6 X5 is faster and cheaper.
"Embarrassing" lol. External validation much ?They already had a 420hp answer. No need for a complicated motor with turbos. The 3.3T G80 sport gets the same MPG as my 5.0L, I expect the 3.5T to be worse so where's the benefit?
If none of it matters, why offer the more powerful engine? The 2.5T should be good enough for everyone. MB's website lists 0-60 times right under the price for a reason... If BMW can do it for less money, why can't Hyundai/Genesis? I'm sure their engineers are as good if not better. You expect a top of the line luxury vehicle to do certain things and by today's standards, 0-60 around 5 seconds is one of them. The day it won't matter anymore is the day cars no longer have steering wheels and humans no longer need to do the driving.

Maybe it's just a Vancouver thing but almost every GLE I see here is an AMG 63 so I don't think Genesis will have trouble selling something more powerful. At least have it keep up with the cheapest X5.
I don't know why the V8 was dropped. EPA regulations? I'm sure decisions to make a new engine and invest many millions is not done lightly. I wasn't invited to the meetings. They already had a 420hp answer. No need for a complicated motor with turbos. The 3.3T G80 sport gets the same MPG as my 5.0L, I expect the 3.5T to be worse so where's the benefit?

Embarrassed? Get the dark tint on your windows so people don't recognize you. I'm sure there are also the few that equate horsepower to penis size. We drive cars, not statistics.

Our opinions and expectations differ. Anything south of 7 seconds will get you to work on time. If I want fast, it won't be an SUV.Non-sequitur, the embarrassment comes from feeling ripped off. Knowing that you bought the fast version that isn't fast. Has nothing to do with what others think. If it did, I wouldn't be driving a $65k Hyundai.
