Hi,>>while we're talking about annoying things, let me add one more item. External fan noise.
OK, just got back from the dealer where we started another GV80 and brought it up to temperature. My GV80 had considerably louder radiator fan noise. In fact you could hardly hear the fan on the other GV80 so sjohnston may be correct. I have an appointment next Tuesday for them to check it out. I'll let you know.
Hi,
I got new 2021 gv80 prestige last week. we had trip yesterday to Toronto and we noticed when
I turn on or set the fan control on AUTO, I hear loud external sound front the engine. Wondering if this normal ??? Please advise I’m very nervous.
It's not traditional lag, it's the computer doing "Boost by gear." Genesis programmed the powertrain for a more comfortable experience in the GV80, so they don't allow full boost in the starting gear to enable a comfortable launch. I do wish this could be overcome with a launch mode that can be used when you need to get away as quickly as possible from a stop, like when you at the front of a traffic light but your lane ends soon after the intersection. If it helps,, i noticed turbo lag, a miniature glove box, lack of bass in the stereo, lack of a middle rear seat, crappy gas mileage, lack of cup holders, no seat massager as advertised, no spare tire, poorly designed rear cargo system, the round crystal ball thingy doesn't work as anticipated. Otherwise, I am happy with the car.
Bought mine (3.5T) on 28Dec20 and it was in the shop on 11Jan21, needing an entirely new rear axle due to a factory defect apparently. Dealership is dragging their feet on fixing it - they've had it for 11 days so far and haven't even started repairs. So, my brand new car is now a used car that required major repair after only having it for 2 weeks. I only put a couple hundred miles on it in the 2 weeks I had it. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement given how much we paid for it. Has anyone else had this issue?
I also had this pop up once right after starting it yesterday. I only have about 300 miles on mine. I cleared the screen and will be watching if it pops up again. Interesting that it has happened to someone else.I've got a new one for the group. Has anyone had the service due indicator come on when starting. It has been doing it for a month our more, each time counting down. It is now Service Due in 199 Miles or 2 weeks. I have 3,500 miles on it.
I finally called the dealer. They want me to bring it in so they can reset it. So much for the Concierge Service. I told them to find out how to reset it and give me the directions. They didn't seem to know. The dealer is a 30 minute drive to a part of town I never go to.
I've got a 2.5 engine, and it sounds like a diesel....I'd say its pretty noticeable when I'm out of the car....Probably the most dissappointing issue with it...BTW I'm in Vermont, and its chilly.Actually, they have. I got the first car at the dealership. After some period of time with it I drove it to the service department and said, "Listen to this!"
They went and started a new GV80 that they had just received and put the 2 cars running side by side. After about a half hour of running my car it still had a loud fan and their new car had a very quiet fan (about 60 degrees temp out at the time here in FL). At that point they scheduled the appointment to check the fan a few days later.
And then, as I said before: " In the intervening time I got a call from the dealer saying they checked a couple other GV80s on the lot (their techs asked about the noise too) and suggested I cancel the appointment. Apparently, the loud fan noise is what it is. Terrible, but at least you don't hear it inside the car."
Apparently the GV80 never warmed up enough just sitting on the lot running. It wasn't until a few techs took the cars for a road test that they noticed the loud fan too. I would presume that since this is winter that if you live in a cold climate you may never hear it either.
You mean during hard acceleration or idle?I've got a 2.5 engine, and it sounds like a diesel....I'd say its pretty noticeable when I'm out of the car....Probably the most dissappointing issue with it...BTW I'm in Vermont, and its chilly.
Have you had it checked yet?
Idling ...You mean during hard acceleration or idle?
That’s the GDI (direct fuel injection). You’ve likely never owned an engine with this feature. You’ll get used to it.I've got a 2.5 engine, and it sounds like a diesel....I'd say its pretty noticeable when I'm out of the car....Probably the most dissappointing issue with it...BTW I'm in Vermont, and its chilly.

PMCErnie- Wow! You're absolutely correct..I haven't owned any vehichle with GDI-and frankly never heard of it. But I now have somewhere to look to widen my scope. Are you saying that every engine with GDI-regardless of the maker- will sound like that? That’s the GDI (direct fuel injection). You’ve likely never owned an engine with this feature. I’m not a GDI expert, but I have 4 Hyundai GDI engines in the family, two in my garage and two in my Son’s garage. I gave him one of those and he bought the other one. Yes, I know what they sound like. I expect to be buying another one soon, as well.PMCErnie- Wow! You're absolutely correct..I haven't owned any vehichle with GDI-and frankly never heard of it. BTW- I initially wanted a Gold Coast advanced 2.5.....The nearest dealer to me had none, and couldn't say when-or IF- they might get one.....I located one seven hours away, but being that far, even though they agreed to deliver it and take back my trade, I would have had to waive concierge, which I could not do. I lucked out 2 months later with my initial dealer just getting in what I had wanted- except it was prestige..I gladly bit the bullet for the extra 4 grand, and am totally pleased with it!
Thanks for that info!!
Initially I was going to go the same route as you, MP3 flash drive, however, in the end I decided to try the wireless CarPlay device (I had one from the GV70 and hadn’t been happy with it). Although it doesn’t always synch up every time I get in the car and I have to disconnect it and reconnect it to get it to work, I’m sticking with it until something better comes along. But I agree, the iPod should work in a $70K car. But I’m afraid that iPods are what in dash CD players once were, becoming obsolete.I went back to the originals on my Dropbox and restored them in multiple ways - different flash drives, different reformats all with no results. However, I decided to convert the files to a ,wav format (not one of the Genesis recommended ones). Then I copied six folders , as a test, onto a USB 3.0 flash drive, formatted on a Mac as exfat. All the tracks played without any problems. Here is the challenge; the WAV files are 6 times bigger than the mp3s. My music takes up about 40 GB, so I need a 256 GB flash drive. I am about to buy one to test. There could be problems. The GV80 might not recognize a drive that large. Also, I have a Sandisk SSD (1 TB) that I am reformatting and will try that as well. This all takes time so I wish Genesis would address the issue. So far the people with whom I spoke haven't responded
