GV80 USA Build and Reserve Page

Been reading for a while but I guess it's time to register to join in the fun.

Does anyone know the difference between Uyuni white and Alta white? I love the look of matte white (Matterhorn on the Korean build site) in those videos and it would be very disappointing if the US doesn't get matte colors.

I *think* the Uyuni is a metallic white and the Alta is not. It does not appear that at least for this initial MY the US is getting any of the matte colors :(

In all of the articles I’ve read so far, they say that the GV80 offers an 18 speaker Lexicon stereo. I currently have a G90 and absolutely love my Lexicon stereo. I’m a huge fan of their stereos. In the online build configurator, as well as an article I found on KBB.com, it says that the stereo boasts 21 speakers. Very interesting.

You are right! There have been some things as such that haven't been consistent. I "think" there will be 18. From the videos I've watched, there are 12 visible speakers in the doors, 2 in the rear cargo area, 2 on the dash behind the navigation screen and 1 subwoofer under each seat. I hope there will be 21.

I'm hoping they bring the Genesis Purification System to the US and the power sliding, recline, folding 2nd row seat in the 5 passenger model.

I think this is why I'm so hesitant to put 1k down and tie up that money. I want to see exactly how they will spec out the car for the US market. I'm still upset that I don't see a satin finish. I was told by a. dealer that they still think it will be available here, but if so, when?

The air system and power seats in the rear are almost deal breakers for me. They are not BMW bringing a 150k I8 to market for the first time where the demand outweighed the inventory. They don't have that yet and may never will. I get 'fake it til you make it', but that won't work that well for a new brand.

In the Seoul release they mentioned the abilty to customize, something like 106000 combinations, so maybe they will do that....just not through the website.

Not sure if anybody already did this but for what it's worth I did email Genesis USA over the weekend for clarification that the configurator is indeed correct and you cannot have both the Prestige Package and the 3rd row (which as others have pointed out is a huge mistake and I would wager gets rectified in the second model year).

Do you have screenshots of the email? I seriously doubt Genesis would bring that Prestige model with a third row to the Miami debut without the actual model having a third row.

They haven't responded back to me yet but happy to post when (if?) they do. I did get back a confirmation they received my inquiry and an automated case# assignment.

Missed the forum post talking about the Miami debut car having both Prestige & 3rd row. Were those for sure US spec cars? I am going to the Chicago show when it opens - they are supposed to bring the GV80 to it so I'll inquire some more. IF it is a mistake in the configurator you would think they could fix that in a second - then again I pointed out an issue to Audi in their configurator once and it took months for them to correct it :(

Yes they were, they were even equipped with the 3.5 TT V6- the ones in Korea were just the diesel straight six.

Since the GV80 doesn't offer 2nd row captain's chairs at the monument, I see no penalty for including the 3rd row on the highest trim.

If the top of the line GV80 with 3.5TT undercuts the Europeans by $10K+ then this negates the whole “Customization” argument because then it’s just a matter of the interiors colour choice.

Just curious, if we assume top of the line GV80 to have MSRP of $65,000, how much similary equipped European car may cost?

It is tough to say without knowing all of the options and the differences but a good range would be the mid $70s to upper 80s I would think.

I have been looking at the GLE 450 spec'd out well. It still doesn't have an apples to apple situation. Since we don't know how the engine will perform, nor the brakes, nor the...... Which engine do we put it up against? the 450 is a 5.5 sec 0-60. they also have the AMG 43 which is a sweet ride and maybe the best one to put up against this one. Their quilted seats are a major charge so I'll put that in there. I upgraded to 21" rims that are nice. third row seats and Nappa leather package that adds the shadow line trim so no chrome. Accoustic package, leather door trim and also on the dash (Nappa). I also added the better headliner to match the GV80. Premium and tech packages, The energizing package gives the cabin clean air and a few other things that the GV80 has. Power window shades and massage seats added. Also ambient lighting. 4 zone climate, soft close doors and augmented reality, Driver assistance and the lighting package (I pray the GV80 has the adaptive headlights (my jag has them and I love them), Surround view and speed limit assist.I also added 3 years of service. $86k plus delivery etc... It will be around 20k more. in order to get the cool quilted seats, you have to buy the AMG 43 package. The AMG is sportier, but is only 1500 more.

Sorry, but I was building as I was posting to keep you up on what's in the build.

In my opinion, vs Mercedes and BMW, if comparable specs is less than $20K/30% difference then I think the GV80 is at disadvantage.

So if I price out both and the BMW turns out to cost $19,000 more for an identically featured car, I'd be smart to spend the extra 19k?

Which car is more fun to drive? Which one do you like the most? Do you care about depreciation? There are a lot of personal decisions in buying a car. The way I look at it is, how much is a CPO vs a new Genesis. Cost of ownership is important to ME also.

If poster feels those are his numbers, it makes total sense to me. If you have the extra money to spend and want the perks that go with it, then go for it. I want it all. I want a car that is fun to drive and is fairly fast. I can get that in a CPO Benz very easily or a Bimmer or Audi or Jag or LR etc... I can't even get that option in a Genesis. That's not a knock, it's a different market they are after. For any newcomer, they need to offer a lot more than the old guard does. That's the reality and I'm not sold on Genesis being able to do that in the US right now.

Not having enough dedicated dealers will hurt them in the short term and possibly not let them get off the ground. Mazda made this mistake (they didn't even get to rename their high end car) when Toyota and Nissan went upscale. I like the local sales guy, but dislike the building GREATLY. It's not handicap accessible and they even park their cars in the handicap spaces constantly. That's a deal breaker for me if they don't address these concerns that I've brought to their attention. Why should if give them this type of money if they can't keep their cars out of the spaces and if they don't make their building more accessible with auto open doors (older building that can easily have new doors installed to help). That's a personal thing, but every dealership I go to for my Audi, JAG and BMW's have updated or rebuilt their dealerships and they weren't even that old.

These are all things that lower the value of a vehicle for me as well as others.

I am talking roughly numbers. $15K difference for example may steer a lot of new comers away. If you are spending 65k on Hyundai spend another 15k and get BMW, that's how the conversation will be and that's how people think. Remember, the brand name has big impact and it gets stronger and stronger with the reduction of price gap.
The almost non existence of stand alone Genesis dealership and the quality of sales and after sales services provided by majority of Hyundai dealers selling Genesis aren't compelling either and therefore those factors add to the price gap difference in attracting people toward Genesis or European brands.
If you personally pick Genesis even if it was 1k cheaper or more expensive that's a different story

There are many reasons to choose one car over another. Money is a big one. I know people worth many millions that drive a Chevy because it get them where they want to go. I know good income people that are strapped for cash because they bought a BMW as much for status as anything else. My guess though a large portion of people are buying as much as they can afford and will buy that Genesis because they get the goodies they want at a price they can afford. The same equipped car that is 15k higher out the door is unreachable. So, is it a better buy if it is out of your budget?

I'm in the later. I won't spend what the GLE new costs. I just won't do it. Even 65k is difficult for me to want to spend on a car, but I love to drive and need safety and comfort. I have a hard time enjoying the lower line cars after all my years driving fun ones. I usually purchase and I always go CPO when doing so. I still may if I can find what I want in the load out I want.

I do like the Genesis a lot. I like the value for what they hopefully will give us. I love the look of the car. The features should be outstanding, but we don't know if the US yet. I hate to say it, but that massage seat for the passenger may be a deal breaker for my wife. There is a thread going back and forth IRT if they are offering it for the passenger. Dealers have no clue either.

We all have our emotions and our brains. Everyone is different. It's up to Genesis to figure out their marketing if they want to be a legit force in this segment. Just offering a great car at a good value won't win over most of the luxury brand buyers in the US. We want to be treated well, like we have been for years. I hope Genesis can get the stand alone dealership built out quicker than it looks like. I also feel if they only build 100 in the US, that will hurt them big time. You need for them to be accessible to folks or why would we bother driving an hour further than we have to for other top end cars?

Solution: Don't ever tell your wife that your seat has it and hers does not.

lmao...she will know.. Oh, she will know. She will be driving it on occasion still, so there's that, lol....:).
