  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV80 vs Bentayga side-by-side comparison

Well, almost three years on mine and not a dime. Five year warranty, then it's time for a new one. Actually, except for collector/show cars, I've never kept one beyond three years...
smart man .

I haven't paid a dime either. Looks are subjective. I agree that I like the look of the GV80 more and that's why I'm here. That said, I passed on the G80 sport because of handling.

Even if you don't like the Jag, it's much more fun to drive and it's not close. You have to pick your poison. I will probably chose the GV80, but please don't say it's in the same league as the Jag when it comes to driving pleasure (if you enjoy driving like I do).

Why not? Have you driven the GV80? I have driven the Jag (not the crazy fast one)...and I was not impressed one iota.

I bet the GV80 outdoes it big time in the comfort area...especially with the adaptive suspension and the active motion driver's seat that has seven air cells that adjust based on road conditions.

I think he is referring to the driving experience in regards to handling/sportiness. The GV80 will not come close to delivering the same experience as the Jag or the X5 but then again it is not designed to do so. They clearly are focusing on luxury and from that standpoint the GV80 will certainly hold its own and even outperform many competitors.

^ no idea how anyone can comment on it. Nobody has even seen it with the 3.5T engine...and how it will look, etc, etc. It will probably have Sport mode...and look who designed the chassis.

Until it lands in the USA/Canada with the 3.5T engine...you cannot assume how it will handle, etc.

G70 sure beat up BMW now didn't it? Pretty sure the GV80 will beat the X5 up pretty bad (not necessarily in acceleration of course).

I actually cross shopped a XF and was not not impressed ,the G70 in and out, fit and finish was better than the jag.

Yes, I'm saying handling/sportiness. It's not as comfortable as the other SUV's on the road, but it's the most fun to drive regardless of the speed of the vehicle. I personally didn't even like the X5 handling, but it's still better than Benz and Audi (wife owns Audi SUV)

I DO feel that the G80 (based on what we have heard test drivers say so far, it's not the handling King that I feel the Jag is) was comparable to the German's in handling.

As I have said, all cars have areas where they excel and in this price range, there just isn't one car that does everything great. I wish there was a switch for comfort and then REAL sport mode that tightens up the steering etc... Again, JMHO and I do see myself in a GV80 if it's the right price with everything on it.

XF is a mid size and the G70 is a compact. I drove directly from Hyundai to Jag and ended up in the Jag for handling adn acceleration. They are the same 0-60 times, but the Jag got there with better low end torque. As for the BMW, I completely agree that the G80 Sport beat it. I was at Meriden, CT Hyundai the day that Consumer Report (I think it was them) test drove the G70 vs the BMW 3 series (forgot which engine). The G70 was in the camo guise which was cool and fun.

Guys, the fit and finish on the Genesis is outstanding. The new looks are beautiful. Heck, I even like the steering wheel when most reviewers pan it as well as the folks on Facebook.

Again, none of us have driven the GV80 yet. As I have stated, if it's similar to the other Genesis models for tuning, it won't beat the F Pace in handling. Heck, if the steering isn't numb as most cars are now, I'll be ecstatic.

Genesis has the best from the industry, they have BMW's top tuner building these cars, Luc Donckerwolke, who – having penned for a number of Volkswagen divisions including Lamborghini as well – recently left his post as head of design at Bentley to run Hyundai's new Prestige Design Division (which will handle the styling for all future Genesis vehicles). Donckerwolke works under Peter Schreyer, who – as chief design officer at Hyundai and one of three presidents of Kia – is the highest-ranked foreigner at the company. Schreyer is also a former VW Group man, having designed the original Audi TT and the Volkswagen New Beetle before leaving for South Korea. One year ago, Hyundai similarly tapped Albert Biermann – formerly head engineer at BMW M GmbH – to run its new performance division. and as of recent they added mercedes benz VP and mark del rosso who also worked with bentley audi and lexus. they have a pretty impressive team that knows what they are doing, that have hands in some pretty iconic cars ever built.

They definitely have the talent to develop any type of vehicle they desire and make it perform well. Given the comments by Biermann in today's MT article that he would love to have one but they are in no hurry to have a GV80 Sport model I take it they are not focusing on the sportiness of the GV80. Obviously it will provide a good ride, probably very good, just more focused to comfort and luxury. I would say that would be akin to the X5 xLine rather than the X5 with the MSport suspension.

Ok dude...not sure what you are talking about...so I am calling you out on this...sorry.

Have you driven the G70? Do you realize how amazing the handling is on the G70? Do some more research on Genesis before posting generalized statements.

My name is Pete for those two know me or ctsooner, but I don't go by dude or bud etc.... I appreciate that upfront. Thanks.

I have MS and am sorry if I am not succinct at times. That's my bad and I won't say sorry for that anymore and that's why I'm sharing WHY my posts are often hard to follow. Imagine being my my head, lol. ;).

I was trying to say that I was about to write a check to get the G80 Sport. loved the car and felt it was a great value too. I then drove the Jag and realized that I could go without some of the goodies etc... to get that fun to drive feeling that the Jag XF S gave me. I also love the look of my car.

I have been ultra positive about the Genesis brand in general. I do wish they had a local Genesis only dealer close by, but realize that won't happen and I can easily get over that if they offer true concierge service for me in the middle of CT.

You are making the assumption that I have not driven the G70. I have driven it on multiple occasions and enjoy it. It's a wonderful car and handles better than the German cars. That said, to ME, it doesn't handle as well as my Jag XF S. That's me. I also didn't remember it handling as well as the XE, but it's got much more to offer than that car, which I'm not in love with. It's a great car and a nice value to say the least. I'm not disparaging the car in any way, shape or form. IF the GV80 handles as well as my car, I'll be ecstatic, but I won't hold my breath.

Due to the MS, I'm no longer able to track cars, but for years I've tracked cars at Lime Rock as it's close by. If the GV80 handles like a G70, then that will be an awesome thing.

I'm hoping that I have clarified my personal feelings. If you have driven my car in sport mode and feel the G70 (I was talking mostly about the G80 which is similarly classed) handles better, that's cool as that's your personal experience. (the last time I drove a G70 was 2 months ago, so it's been fairly recent.

Thanks for clarifying Pete.

Welcome. I'm glad I found this forum. I find that there is passion here that has waned for most of the other brands out there. I've had a BMW in my garage since '97 (wife still has her 2001 E46 convertible that we keep in the best shape we can for a car that old). The lost their way in so many ways, including the Hartford dealer making fun of my walking sticks (I use a rollator now) as well as my MS issues of walking. Audi is a really great car for my wife who wants a nice car, that's easy to drive. She's on her fourth one. Never went with Benz as I hated how they handled. Even the Black CLS 63 AMG I drove fishtailed and had major understeer. I hated that car even though it was pretty inside and out and was comfortable with my MS needs.

I'm sure the GV80 will have a nice balance and that's all I'm hoping for at this point. I too wanted a GV80 Sport, but was told that wasn't in the cards for a long time as they want to get the GV70 out first to see how they all sell.

Hey Pete, I wanted to know you feel g80 sport is better fun to drive than the 5 series m sport?

Also sucks Genesis won’t be coming with a gv80 sport soon as my f15 x5 lease is ending nov. 2020 If so I’ll go with the g05 x5

Sorry, that's my MS (cognitive issues). Yes it was the G70 vs the BMW. Heck, I've been a member of the BMW car club since '97 so that I can get the rebates as that's all I ever drove (Dinan M5's and then the Larger engine 5 series wagon as well as numerous BMW convertibles /wife still owns one from 2001).

I don't like how they handle anymore. They have lost their way IMHO. It's a personal thing. My Jag blows the Bimmer away for handling etc... Not as fast as I don't have the V8 engines ut I have the XFS which is about 380 with plenty of torque. They aren't as much fun as they used to be. I do like the Genesis better for looks etc..

You should really test drive a G05 X5 and I think you will be pleased in the change in handling from the F15 just in case the Genesis doesn't work out for you.

Thanks, I may. I won't deal with the local New Country dealers as I'm not allowed to after we had a legal settlement for them making fun of my walking and handicap. I have another dealer that I can deal with (I live in between them) if I want to. I just don't like the look of the X5 and the price is very high for what you get. Do they offer massage seats like Benz and Genesis?

Looks are subjective of course, the X5 was the only SUV I considered since it was the best looking one out there by a long ways to me. I think the GV80 may be art least equal if not better looking on the exterior. Yes, they offer massage seats. The wife loves them and says all our vehicles must have them in the future. I actually like using them too. We took a 4,986 mile road trip this past summer through 17 states and two provinces in Canada and never felt sore or uncomfortable.
