  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone know what the gross vehicle weight rating will be on the GV80? Plus 6K lbs for maximum tax benefits?

I don't know for sure but the curb weight is going to be over 5,000 pounds and it seats 7, so it is almost a certainty that it will exceed 6,000 gvwr.

What is the tax benefit? Sorry, never heard of that.

6000 lb GVWR is the threshold determined by IRS that qualifies business usage with certain exemptions & depreciation rates.

It absolutely must be above 6K, anything less than that will automatically make it ~25% pricier and the alternatives will look much more appealing at that price point.

The 3.5t gv80 weighs 5,830lbs(2,650kg) but i think that is without the spare tire. The 3.5t should easily be over 6,000 lbs fully loaded, with 22inch wheels, panoroof and 7 seat configuration.

Possibly, but the rims are fairly light weight. Not sure how much extra the sunroof and seat would be. How much would a seat be? And extra 80 lbs. sunroof would add 100 lbs? Wild guesses, but could be close.

Ugh so they missed by a 100 lbs... Again. Whatever genesis.

I never said they missed it. My post is total speculation if that's what you used for your 100 lbs. I could well be at or above the weight needed. Heck, GV80Korea feels it will exceed the limit with no problem. He/she would have a much better grasp than I. Don't 'lose hope on my accord please.

Are you sure you are reading/interpreting that correctly? That seems pretty heavy, I was thinking more around 5,200lbs curb weight. You are probably seeing the GVWR which is the maximum amount of weight, vehicle, passengers, cargo, etc., that it can safely handle. If you are correct and that is the weight, the the GVWR will probably be in the 6,500 - 7,000 range.

It would be nice if automakers made the effort to surpass the threshold when close, unlike the Telluride which missed it by less than 100lbs. Could be a dealbreaker for those looking to benefit from the huge tax incentive!

Thanks to Google Translate :) 2650 GVWR is 5842 lbs. So yeah, quite a miss.
Too bad, it will knock this otherwise worthy vehicle off the SMB owners shopping list.

What is SMB? I still don't' fully understand what happens at 6k lbs. Is assume it's for small businesses. My wife leases through the insurance business she owns. None of her cars have been over 5k, so maybe that's why we don't know about it.

Vehicles over 6k GVWR are treating differently in regards to the deduction that can be taken.

What Is the 6,000-Pound Vehicle Tax Deduction?

So from what I gather (I"m TERRIBLE doing taxes and have never done my returns even in HS), this applies only to purchased cars and not leased, is that correct? It looks like a bonus depreciation level that you are able to take if you are over??? Thank for helping guys. My wife wants to know about it as she may want to buy the GV80 through the business and use it and then give me her SUV for now.

In the nutshell under the tax code and if some conditions are met you can write off 100% of your vehicle purchase in the first year it's put in service, which effectively makes it significantly cheaper.
I think some even call it a "luxury SUV loophole," since initially it was thought as a writedown of farm vehicles and heavy trucks and all that.

Thanks. that makes sense. It sounds like it's for purchase only.
