  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GVWR of GV80

In the nutshell under the tax code and if some conditions are met you can write off 100% of your vehicle purchase in the first year it's put in service, which effectively makes it significantly cheaper.

I thought it was a up-to-$25,000 deduction, not 100% of the purchase price. I'm not real knowledgeable on that end of the tax code though, so 🤷.

Your understanding is correct, you can deduct up to $25k of the purchase price for vehicles with a GVWR between 6k and 14k.

Edit: I was doing some more reading and there is a 100% bonus depreciation that was in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that seems to apply.

So this is obviously only on purchasing the vehicle and not leasing correct? My wife wants the Mercedes E class sedan, so it won't affect her. If this sUV was 6000k then maybe I'd have her buy it through the business and we'd share it as needed.

Correct, with leasing you have the usual options of either writing off the payments or mileage - whatever serves you best.

It’s 25k deduction off the top...you then have percentage of depreciation each year you retain vehicle. I believe within 4-5 years it will reach 95% total deduction. The car must be purchased but it doesn’t have to be brand new. You can by used, it just needs to be “new” to you. I buy a “new” truck/suv every 2-3 years to maximize this deduction benefit.

wow, I'll ask her new accountant about this. it may make sense for her to buy a CPO every 2-3 years as that's what she always seems to want to do. She's been able to get a newer car ever 2 years with her leases, but it's a lot of money.

yep, it's a treasure trove if you do it right... Even if the whole 100% write off is going away in a couple of years.

Thanks to everyone for sharing. Learning a lot and wondering why our ex accountant never told us this when I asked which was better, buying or leasing when she started her business. You still get the deductions either way, but it seems like you are getting to deduct the whole car over a period of time vs just the lease, which is only the portion you use. hmmm

It would be nice if automakers made the effort to surpass the threshold when close, unlike the Telluride which missed it by less than 100lbs. Could be a dealbreaker for those looking to benefit from the huge tax incentive!

Despite missing the theshold, the Telluride has had no issue selling, but would've been nice.

Wonder if this is partly the impetus for Kia to (reportedly) working on a more rugged version of the Telluride (X-Line?) which would get things like a front and rear skid plate, adding weight?

The reports have also hinted at the Telluride getting larger, but that doesn't make sense (within this lifecycle) unless Kia plans on switching the Telluride to the newer platform.

Problem w/ that is the new platform is lighter, so making it bigger (and adding things like skidplates) would add more weight than what was reduced by switching to the lighter platform.

As for the GV80, the eGV80 (assuming there will be one since Genesis trademarked the nameplate) should hit that threshold.

Still haven't hear from my dealer either. Anyone take delivery and know the answer?

Bumping this because I just got one, but was told only the 7 seater AWD is over 6K lbs. Not sure that's 100% accurate but that's what the dealer said and it pushed me to that model. Its effectively a 33% discount on 90% of the car's purchase price.

Your dealer is wrong. I have the 5 passenger Prestige and here is my door sill plate which states the weight 6108

Does anyone know what the gross vehicle weight rating will be on the GV80? Plus 6K lbs for maximum tax benefits? I sell Genesis. The RWD, 2..5T, has a GVWR of 5,777. We're waiting to get our first 3.5T. I'm guessing this one will weigh above 6,000 because: (a) all 3.5T's are AWD (heavier), (B) V-6's weighs more than V-4's and (c) 3.5T has 22 inch wheels.

Can someone explain to me why Genesis tire pressure recommendations are different in Canada versus USA and Korea.
Korea and USA suggest "33psi front" and "36psi rear". set cold.
Canada suggest "36psi front" and "42psi rear". set cold.
Am I missing something with these tire pressures.
If these figures are correct, my Canada GV80 will have a much rougher ride then the USA or Korea.

Any comments, thanks

Maybe being supplied with different Manufacturer's tire or tire model?

From what I’ve seen the difference is due to 7 seats vs 5 seats.
In US Prestige trim is a 5 seat but in Canada it is a 7 seat SUV.
