  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Had magnaflows put on the R-Spec

Here is the funny thing, I ran the MSA X-pipe with the factory mufflers for the better half of four months, I could tell zero difference in tone and volume.

However, since the the MSA X-pipe removes a resonator, this is why I welded in two Vibrant 12" resonators after the X-pipe.

Reactive mufflers (Chambered mufflers) produce a high frequency noise as a byproduct of the sound waves bouncing around those chambers. Some chambered mufflers use fiberglass packing or other forms of absorptive material to reduce this noise (But in most cases it's not enough). Absorptive mufflers do not produce a high frequency noise, and due to their design being a perforated tube and fully packed with absorptive materials, they can remove this high frequency noise, what they fail at, though, is the ability to reduce sound levels, where as reactive mufflers succeed in that category. You could take Flowmaster's most aggressive 3-chamber muffler, then replace it with a Magnaflow of the same case size and the Magnaflow would be noticeably louder by several decibels.

With that being said, if I were to do another exhaust system, I would put a chambered dual-in/dual-out muffler in place of the factory resonator and then at the back, place two small resonators.

The '12-'14 Magnaflow CBE has what amounts to x-pipe>>2 glasspacks>>2 larger glasspacks. They call the 2 larger glasspacks "mufflers", but as you mention their mufflers are basically larger, eliptical shaped glasspacks with a layer of more robust steel mesh around the perforated core. The sound is definitely deep, but the problem I deal with is some sort of rasp on high revs that I can't get rid off.

Flynblind what is your exact exhaust set up?
Drone may not be a problem with your set up but it sure is with mine. Hearing a blinker has nothing to do with it. I am not really following your logic! When the exhaust is vibrating the seats and the exhaust is not very loud outside the car that wasn't what I was looking for.
So are you suggesting that the stock resonator doesn't play well with aftermarket mufflers? I was expecting a little more exhaust note outside the vehicle and less inside. Again I have had a ton of exhaust set ups and I totally understand that the exhaust will be heard inside the vehicle.. I get that but I did not expect it to be so quite outside vs the interior noise and vibrations. The muffler case measure 14x8x4 so they are the smaller magnaflows. I can live with the exhaust but if there is something I can do to get the outside a little louder and keep the inside noise the same I am game. Or even make it a little less noticeable inside I am game. My fear is I put on a different resonator and make things worse

I am running the Mangaflow 15059 cat back exhaust kit. It comes with the X pipe in place of the H pipe/resonator and has resonators before each muffler. I also still have my secondary cats installed.

The questions I was proposing were meant to get an idea in how loud the sounds are inside the vehicle and the types of sounds. I also was asking if there were harmonics and reverberations inside the vehicle (which from these comments, it sounds like there is). People tend to replace exhaust systems, hear a louder exhaust note inside the vehicle, and then immediately complain about "drone" as if the vehicle should be loud outside and quiet inside. If it is not, then that must be drone.

I am glad you are not one of those people and understand that louder exhausts equal louder sounds inside the vehicle :)

And yes, I was suggesting the stock resonators might not be sufficient for the mufflers purchased.

While I do not have a lot experience with modern mufflers, exhaust systems, resonators, etc., I did do a lot of research before purchasing my exhaust to minimize the bad sounds and enhance the wanted sounds.

I hope that you can find a reasonable solution to your problem, I just don't know that I can add any positive suggestions.
