I was under the impression that Bluetooth (from the phone to the car) did not have enough bandwidth to support Carplay. Are you sure the WiFi is not built into the car and connects to the phone that way?

You are correct about Bluetooth and that is why I said it uses Bluetooth to make the connection and then uses The cars WiFi, it is the method that BMW uses to set up the CarPlay connection. In other words, the pairing is done by Bluetooth and then the vehicle’s WiFi is used for the CarPlay traffic.

You'd think they'd almost have to have it.

If it were wired via USB, then it would be nothing new. What's surprising is not only that both Android Auto and Apple Carplay are wireless (wireless Android Auto might be an industry first, having both AA and AC be wireless in the same car is definitely an industry first)- but that Hyundai would offer it in one of their cheapest mass production models before Genesis. Usually, it's the higher-end models that tend to receive the more advanced tech before trickling down to the budget models. Hyundai is doing it in reverse. They're doing the same thing now too with their 48V mild hybrid system.

At this rate, I wouldn't be surprised if the Elantra is offered with massaging seats before any Genesis.

This does not surprise me regarding the Elantra. My daughter purchased the last Gen sport Elantra when it came out. It was the first vehicle in Canada to get Bluelink connectivity and some other tech I cannot remember right now. Probably missed this feature by a few months.

I watched 2021 Elantra's premiere and they've emphasized much on versatility as well as technologies, so this makes sense

That just seems like the strangest thing. Maybe they are using the lower priced cars to 'test' the systems. Ironically, this is one of the few features I care about having. As a techie, you fully know how badly I want the latest and greatest of all tech in cars. I actually use most of the stuff on the Audi, which has a fair amount of tech for a 2 year old car (wife's).

I'm wondering what may show up once it hits these shores (whenever that will be now).
