  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all,

I've been looking to get a Genesis Sedan since last December, and finally became an owner!!
Local dealer had few '09s left on their lot and the deal was too sweet to refuse.
I've been a hardcore sports car/manual trans guy for years and I guess it was my time to move on to something more practical and comfy. :D

My 3 miles drive back to the office from the dealer was heaven. Everything is just perfect so far.
Couldn't be happier with my purchase.
Looking forward to sharing lots of info with you owners/enthusiasts here. :)

Welcome Dan:grouphug:

Congratulations! I hope you have many years of enjoyment.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Scott & MrGenesis :)
I already stepped out of my office twice to go see my new Genny. :D
The car drives smooth and solid. Every controls including the shifter, steering wheel, brake pedals, etc. feels very solid and well-built.

I need to go on a road trip to enjoy her even more.

Thanks again, guys.

Dan

Welcome!

That's one of my only purchasing regrets: not getting a saddle interior. The black on black is nice, but the dash leather is not as evident as with the brown.

Thank you! :)

I was kinda torn between the beige and the black interior.
Initially, I told the dealer that I prefer the tan interior but after sitting inside the black interior one in the showroom, I thought it looked more... subtle(?).

When I was finalizing my deal with the dealer, they already sent out a platinum/tan one for prepping and what not, so I decided to take it.

BTW, my tan interior doesn't have the brown center leather piece. It's actually dark grey.
I also liked the brown dash like you did, but mine didn't have it. I guess they come in different configurations.

Anyway, still happy with the decision I made. :)

:welcome:Welcome to the Forum, Dan. "Nearwater"? How near, friend? I live ocean front on a barrier island and have been wondering about corrosion issues. I've got a 2001 Miata MX5 which has been taking a real beating from the salt air. I like the paint warranty Hyundai has given us. :)

Welcome aboard Nearwater! Congrats on the new vehicle

Congrats! I love my Genesis - its been great so far.

Thank you, thank you!

Ron,
I'm in Michigan, so.. pretty close. :)
But that "nearwater" is a name of a beverage available(was?) in Korea.
I used to drink like half a gallon of that stuff when I was having a hangover. lol.

Crupp,
Thanks for the warm welcome. I also really liked the Platinum/black like the one you drive. I was torn on which interior to get, but the dealer pretty much decided it for me.

Sayantsi,
Got your PM. Replied ;)

Dan

My coworkers already sat in the car and loved it.
My boss has an Audi A6 and he seemed pretty impressed. :)

You will be happy with your new purchase.

One of the comments above raises a question for me again:

What is the deal with the dash leather color? Originally, all were saddle. Then, they added the black, and you saw cars configured both ways. Now, I cannot find a single '10 with a saddle dash...haven't seen one for months. I asked the GM of the dealer during my last test drive visit, and they acted like they'd never even HEARD of the saddle dash.

My impression is that they've discontinued the saddle dash trim on all models except maybe the saddle interior, and I haven't seen one of those in so long that I have no data. Can anyone substantiate this? I wanted a champagne gold 4.6 tech, which only comes with the tan interior, but I really wanted the saddle dash trim...I think the black trim is far too contrasty, and from the wrong color family (tan and saddle are both "browns"). Nobody seems to have one anywhere, which makes me think Hyundai no longer offers it.

Hyundai has discontinued the saddle dash on the black interior. This was done mid-2009 I believe. Supposedly it was in reaction to a consumer focus group who said they did not like the two-tone interior effect of having saddle dash and black interior. HMA spends a lot of money trying to get feedback from customers, and sometimes they listen. This is the first time I have heard complaints about it being discontinued.

If you go to their "build your own" configurator, you can choose "brown"(aka saddle) for the 2009 interior but no picture shows when you do. It shows as a choice with saddle seats in 2010. I like the saddles dash accent. It has a similar effect as a wood dash, but looks better, IMHO, than the Genesis's plastiwood.

Thanks, Mark888...okay, so that's half (or, one-third) of the puzzle. I can understand why people might just prefer the straight black-on-black interior, although I liked the saddle trim, depending upon exterior color. Do you know anything about the tan or saddle interiors? Is the saddle trim still available on a tan interior?

This is interesting to me. The Europeans have always put together unusual combinations of color, by American standards...the Germans made silver cars with brown interiors popular, for example...ditto, blues and browns together. Today, that's a styling cue for an upscale car, which is why I suspect Hyundai did it. I'm not sure if the failure of this on the Genesis is their somewhat-questionable choice of exact color tones, or if it is the sensibilities of their customers, who often aren't from that same demographic and just find it weird...

Now that I come to think about it, the reason I had my mind set on the tan interior was because I saw a silver one with the saddle leather on the dash and I really liked it.
That was back in December, and now the one I bought didn't have it. :(
Oh well, I still like the dark grey(or black) leather dash on mine.
