Hard Wired Radar / Laser Detectors *Merged*

There is a plug inside the plastic track along the windshield that leads from the headliner to the mirror mount. When I did mine, I removed the mirror and unplugged the mirror from the car when I did mine. Then, I shoved the hard-wire pins into the back side of the plug coming from the headliner. That made it way easier to access the back side of the plug. Then, after I tested that the RD was good, I buttoned it all back up.

Can you provide pictures of this? I am wanting to use the mirror mount cable for my Escort Max in my 2013 rspec.

Thanks! But that's exactly what I tried. When I tried to insert the small copper ends of the wires into the back of the harness, there wasn't enough of a gap to get them into the space. Just kept bending the ends over. I was a little concerned of damaging the harness too...

Here you go, here is a front view and a side view of the BlendMount with a 9500iX.

Sorry I have been slow to respond-- I forgot.

Anyway, yes, it can be tight to get the pins into the harness plug. I did this on my Genesis and my Dad's Prius. There is not much room in there. I tried multiple spots around the pins to find a spot with enough room and enough pressure for stable contact. The Genesis was easier. The Prius was very hard. We used a straight pin to shift the contacts inside the harness to make room.

You probably do not have to worry much about damaging the harness. I have done a bunch of wiring retrofits using OE parts, and those plugs and internal pins are pretty durable. Removing the mirror from the car and then getting the plug free helps a lot. But, it can be tight.

Re: Mirror tap on a 2013 Genesis? Help !

I have an escort Max detector and bought a mirror tap from mirrortap.com.

As I understand it, the pink wire is hot and the black wire in the harness is ground. The problem is that I've tried a couple of different taps to try and "push" the tap into the correct slots on the wire harness, but it's too tight. It won't allow the end piece of the tap to make contact inside the harness.
Anyone have a fix or experience with this?? See pics.
I took a closer look at your pictures, and the pins on your mirrortap are much thicker than the pins on the BlendMount wiring kit. You will have a challenge with that.

Thanks for that. My blendmount cable came in. I'm going to give that a shot.

I would like detailed pictures of mirrortap installation specifically getting into the harness and tapping point locations.

Here is the mirrormount cable in the connector. It's easy to get the cable unpluggged, but a bit of a challenge getting the pins in. Black slid in fine, but the red just isn't going in. I did get it to touch and work sucessfully; I'm just a little worried I didn't get the red in far enough.

Just purchased the max. I have a 2013 with tech and premium pacs. Does anyone have anymore more mirror mount pics and/or methods for the mirror install? HAs a specific mount come out to be used for the sedan application and the Escort Max? Thanks all!

No mirror mount available yet. I'm using the suction cup. Tried to use a wire tap from the mirror for my power, but can't get the taps into the connector for some reason.

Thanks for the BIG picture! I finally just pushed the wire tap into the connector today and got it connected. :D

Best 8 dollars you will spend for hardwiring a radar detector, find a fuse that comes on with ign power, and tap it in and crimp the power and your done.
