  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anybody had a problem with the paint chipping?

Recently I noticed 6 small (piece of dry rice) paint chips (its black underneath) on the bottom lip of the frame under the front doors in my Genesis. 3 on each side. When the doors are shut you can see them from the outside. They are being caused by my shoes getting in and out of the vehicle. I took the car into King Hyundai of Pompano Beach, FL They were puzzled by the paint chipping and gladly made an appointment for me on Thursday to have it repainted. They also offered a loaner Genesis for the day while it was being fixed. Anybody else with this issue?

I had this happen the first week I had the car. The dealer fixed it when I took the car in for another scratch that I noticed before delivery. Since then (2 months now) I have been more careful and haven't had problems.

Unfortunately, to meet new "environmental standards" paint is a lot softer than it used to be on many cars. I swear the paint on my new Lexus LS460 can chip by simply looking at it.

That said, I didn't have any noticeable problems with the paint on my Genesis. Granted, it was white and thus not as easy to spot.

Rock chips are such a bummer - especially on metallic paints.

I have a rock chip near the hood ornament that barely nicked the surface ( I expect that) and not very noticeable. But the paint chips under the front doors are 6 black spots, originally I thought they were tar specks. The dealer was more than happy to get them fixed quickly.

LLT I take you now own the Genesis since you became a member since May 09

I bought it in May. I got rid of it in September. A very nice car, it just wasn't for me.

It's great the dealer stepped up for you. Maybe you could look into ventureshield (or 3M mask, etc.) over the new paint in that area (once it properly cures, of course) to prevent further scuffs/chips?

I bought my Genesis last week (Sapphire Blue Pearl with beige interior). I picked up the car last Sunday. There are some minor issues with the car but some of these minor issues still bothers me because the car is supposedly "brand" new. I have 120 miles on the car but noticed the paint chips, 3 of them, on the driver side located in the same area that you mention. I also thought it was my shoes getting in and out of the car but I thought how can a shoe bump cause these chips. Anyway, the chips are visible when the door is closed, just like yours. I read in one of the posts that the paint on new cars are "softer". This may be true but this area and other areas should be coated with something to prevent these noticable chips. I will call the dealer tomorrow and see if they can fix this. I also noticed some water spots which I removed with MX7 but some water spot marks (which can be seen at a certain angle and lighting) on the trunk seem permanent. Perhaps the dealer can buff these out. Another thing is that the chrome trim looks dull. I don't know if the chrome is over a plastic base and not a metal base. My previous car was a Lexus GS400 which was solid but I am happy, so far, with the Genesis.
