Has anyone considered the Chevy SS

I've been eyeing the Genesis for a few months now. I recently discovered the chevy SS. Its essentially a 4 door sports sedan with a manual transmission option. The SS will get discontinued after 2017 due to poor car sells, but technically, its a beast of a car.

Although the Chevy does not have the Technology like the Genesis, it does have a comparable power, and .... 4-door Manual

The 5.0 Genesis, which is rare, the '16 is none-existent, and the Genesis '17 5.0 will have a ~$3K price jump over '16. The Chevy SS Manual is just as rare.

So basically, Genesis, more comfortable, better Tech. and Chevy SS has a Manual tranney.

Roughly the same price for either.

The Chevy SS is a great sports sedan. It's got a great magnetic ride system and it's more sporty than a genesis. I have the 5.0 genesis and it's "sporty" enough for me. Although, if you're looking for a true sports sedan that handles corners well and has great performance overall, I would go for the SS. If luxury is more of a priority, then go for the Genesis. It comes down to Sport Vs Luxury

Id say the Genesis, or anything from Hyundai would be more reliable than a Chevy.

The chevy ss, not as attractive, I have not seen those, in the wild, anywhere I've traveled. but really I truly don't care what anyone else drives or what they think, but its just a good feeling to drive something that no one else has.

Well, the SS is better handling and faster than the 5.0 Genny and has more Aftermarket options available. As you said you can also get it in a manual and get full Brembos all-around and magnetic drive control. Totally different car IMO. The Genny is straight luxury with a powerful engine but after that no comparison.

East Coast of what planet? The Genesis is still a pretty rare sight anywhere especially when compared to a Camry.

I considered the Chevy SS, test drove it, pretty impressed. I test drove the Genesis, also impressed. The sound of the SS is amazing, the way a V8 should sound. But as others have said, they're different cars.

The way I see it is the SS is a souped up Malibu. Most people would question why you bought a Malibu for $50K versus a Genesis luxury car. That's probably where the market for those cars are failing. I don't think I've ever seen one in the wild. They're still sitting on lots, even with 7-10K off.

The Genesis is a much better purchase. Luxury and performance, versus "just" performance.

i live in the northern plains, and i rarely see any gennys of this or the first generation. and i like it that way!!!

I sat in one on the showroom floor while I was getting my wife's oil changed on her Acadia. Good-looking car, but these cars do not go after the same market. There was quite a distance in interior quality.

If the Chevy SS is in play, I would consider the Dodge Charger SRT 392 instead, it is faster, nicer looking, better chassis and more modern overall...
If money is no object at this time, the Hellcat version would be the ticket, for me there is no such thing as too much power and they are so rare...

I did, and I actually bought one over the Genesis. Well, I owned it for 6 months and sold it. The car was rough and the family didn't like riding in it. It was a bit noisy. It was a fun car no doubt, but more RAW than Luxury I would say. If I had to do it over, I would get the Genesis. I lost 14k on selling it 6 months later. Yeah, it doesn't hold the value well at all. Mine was a 2015 model loaded.

I read the articles about the SS when I was looking for my Geni. Mostly positive, but production was intentionally limited. And with the new Fed CAFE standards I heard that GM couldn't afford to keep it in the fleet. You didn't say where you live, but the sports models are definitely not winter vehicles. Again, Fed CAFE standards are pushing the manufacturers to limit V8 production and AWS is out of the question. I had a Marauder. Nice car, I miss it nine months out of the year, but get two inches of snow without treatment and you were staying home. I suspect the SS has similar manners. I'll stick with V6 AWS as long as I can only have one vehicle and I'm where you can get two feet of snow.

I also own a G8 GT, the better-looking precursor to the SS. The Genesis is more luxury than sport, while the G8 is raw V8 sport (after swapping in a cold air intake and catback exhaust system). The Genesis gives me a feeling of satisfaction, while the G8 keeps me grinning. The Holden engineers accurately targeted the handling of the BMW 5 series (and as a bonus, the G8 still used hydraulic power steering). The Australians kept improving RWD "family" cars after the 60's, while the USA got mired in FWD crap cars.
