  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

has anyone replaced shocks / struts / springs? 2013 RSpec

I haven't been there yet but I will in the next month for an oil change. I will go to another shop to see what they say also.
The miles makes me think it is possible...the constant drift/pull to the right is annoying as heck! Especially how many miles I drive daily so I need to get something done

To solve the "pulling" issues, you need brand new tires and take it to a suspension shop that starts with factory alignment specs, but does further alignment based on multiple test drives. Forget about anyone who does an alignment based only on specs.

Once tires are unevenly worn, you cannot get a proper alignment, so you need brand new tires.

Do those R-Spec shocks feel any different on your oem susp? I've also wondered if they would be a better fit for a lowering spring since they're a part of a more aggressive setup than non R-Spec.

When I picked up my 2011, it had 36k on it, and I remember it feeling quite numb/isolated and almost regretting not buying the slightly higher mileage BMW 335i. Also add in the fact I was coming from a Genesis Coupe lowered on Eibach Pro Kit springs, so I was used to a low, bumpy, very road connected ride. With the R-Spec front struts and springs I don't have that same numb/isolated feeling again, it feels as firm as it was then, but a little more connected with road feel. As far as height is concerned, my factory struts were so blown and springs worn that when I put the used R-Spec struts and springs on, I actually gained height.

Currently I am riding on R-Spec fronts and 2011 rears with no adverse or obvious effects of mixing them, however, it is temporary while I source some R-Spec rear shocks and springs.

The 2009-2011 suspensions were quite firm. Starting in 2012, the Genesis retuned the suspension to be much less firm, except for the R-Spec, which is pretty close to the 2009-2011 stock suspension.

One thing that is highly recommended for 2009-2011 owners is to replace the rear stabilizer bar with a 2012-2014 bar (same bar for both V6 and V8). The new one is hollow instead of solid, and only costs about $125 at online Hyundai Parts websites.

The springs and shocks (rear) / struts (front) are tuned to work together, and I would not mix and match them (get all 2012 or all 2010), the only exception being the rear stabilizer. Plus, as I said, the 2012 R-Spec is not much different than the 2009-2011 V8 suspension (again, accept for the rear stabilizer).

I actually went on this recommendation earlier and went ahead and installed the 12-14 rear sway bar and Ultra Racing strut bar). Handing and stability definitely improved. It made me want to continue upgrading the suspension so next spring I'm thinking of going with Storm springs.

Thanks, I might end up doing this. I wanted to do coils, but now I'm thinking lowering springs and replacing my shocks/struts with R-Spec pieces. I recently added the Ultra Racing strut bar and 12-14 rear sway bar; feels like a different car (smaller/tighter).

I got the tires brand new from NTB recently and have the 5 year unlimited alignment/rotate and balance package.
I have done this with my previous and other current vehicle (Tahoe) and they do a great job.
I am not against new struts I simply wanted to let people know the repair shops out there are not well versed on our vehicles and may have silly prices at times for repairs.

coilovers imo that's best replacement and it will transform your car to a real sports saloon

I ordered and replaced mine with the br racing coilover kit and now am missing the plush ride quality way too much that I will be switching back. Think is I may need new shocks. Should be putting the br racing kit up on eBay soon now.

I have a 2012 Genesis RSpec (5.0L). Do you think the aftermarket Bilstein shocks (B8) from a Genesis Coupe will fit in my car?

I heard the shocks are very similar with the only difference being the springs.
I posted pics of the difference in coupe and sedan suspension here, you could get the actual shock itself to work but you would need to keep part# 55347 from the sedan.

Wow great info! Thanks. I’m def going to give the bilsteins a shot as I got quoted $375 each for shocks for the r spec from the “stealer”

If all you need is the shock only I found this on hyundai parts deal. I would replace the whole assembly if I could find one with a longer softer spring with an adjustable shock that extended further than factory.

Well I know I at least need the rears because they do not de-compress on their own anymore. (Gas shocks are supposed to right?) so I thought the fronts may need it too. Also a concern is that the front left sits half inch lower than the right making me believe they may have replaced only 1 side in the past, leading me want to replace the whole assembly on the fronts. What’s the link to your attachment up there?

Anyone use hyundaioemparts.com???

Yes, gas shocks should extend on their own. I don't know how long it should take a stock hyundai shock since they are all different. They may have only replaced one side, it's a fairly common mistake people make. The link I use for oem parts is Hyundai Parts - Genuine OEM Hyundai Parts and Accessories Online

I still have these available you get the whole assembly so you can just do a straight up swap no sketchy spring compressors and it's relatively easy to do with general mechanics tools and knowledge.. there basically brand new this car was a garage queen.

Please let me know if that's still the plan
Thanks!

That’s still the plan indeed. I’ve been holding back from posting it in case I changed my mind but it’s been a few weeks/months now. I think I’m ready to sell now. Lmk if interested

Definitely interested. Not sure if there's a way to inbox, but lmk where you are located, how many miles and what's the asking price.

Thanks!
