If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was curious if anyone with the 2012 Tech pkg (3.8L, 4.6, 5.0 R-spec) was able swap out the headunit for one from the 2013 Tech pkg that has the working bluetooth audio? I searched but couldn't find anything on swapping headunits.

A friend of mine said that he replaced the headunit in a 2009 Audi with a 2012 Audi headunit and was able to get the newer features.

I have been trying to find out the same info for a while now. Seems no one has tried it yet. I did take a look at the part number for the two different nav units for 2012 vs 2013 and the wiring is quite different so it def would not be a direct swap.

I looked at the pin outs for the 2012 and 2013 in the service manuals for each and they looked identical in terms of pin out. What I can't find a good answer for is if the DVD headunit for the 2013 is different from the 2012. I see pictures where they look the same, then I see pictures where they look different.

I never thought of this, I can look up the pin out of both years at work and see if they are the same.
If they are I don't see why not. If I can find a used 2013 Genesis with tech package, I definitely won't have a problem swapping to test.
Will have to be next week as I'm going out of town this weekend.

The only other thing I can think of is the DIS controllers. I believe they are different between the two years. Question is if the DIS on the 2013 will fit in the center console molding of the 2012, if so then it would just be a DIS swap which would be great. I like the revised look on the 2013-2014.

If you get a chance to test it out grab the part numbers also. Seems to be some discrepancies of the different models out there on the internets.

You're right. I looked at the connectors in the service manuals for the 2012, 2013, & 2104 and they used the same diagrams in each one. They even have the DIS of the 2012 model displayed in the 2013 & 2014 manuals. Hyundai too cheap to redo service manuals correctly.

I'm not sure if it's known, but the 2013 Genesis tech and Rspec in Canada has the 2012 head unit and DIS controller.

I purchased my 2013 Genesis 5.0 Rspec back in August 2015. During the time I looked around for months trying to find a touchscreen Genesis with the DIS and could not find one. I searched through all the forums regarding this and it was never mentioned.

Just wanted to bring this up as the last comment mentioned the 2013/2014 manuals show the 2012 model of the DIS. Here in Canada, the Genesis only had the one model of DIS, so the 2013/2014 manuals would be correct.

I have been trying to find if swapping the head unit and DIS would allow Bluetooth streaming but never found someone who had done it.

Very interested, subscribed, and waiting patiently for Ron5.0 for comment on the pinout.

So your 2013 5.0 also doesn't have Bluetooth audio streaming? Interesting. Since the 2013 & 2014 have the same DIS, I wonder if the Bluetooth is broken on those too.

Correct. My 2013 5.0 doesn't have Bluetooth streaming. It has the same head unit and DIS as the 2012.

Okay guys, I look at my 2012 Rspec and compared to a 2013 rspec. First few thing. We would have to change the radio and screens from one to another but also the surround trim of the lower radio unit would have to be replaced. But our 2012 units would loose the key slot as the 2013 has it in the center console. Also the dis controller is different so that would have to be replaced also. Now.. I didn't actuallly switched them out to test nor check the connectors. As I don't think its worth it, just buy a Bluetooth module we can installed with the car usb/aux for about $50.

Thanks for the information Ron5.0

Having an additional Bluetooth module for the aux input is definitely the cheaper and easiest option.

Are there any bluetooth adapters that will come on when the car is on (and go off when it's off)? All the ones I've seen you have to turn on manually. I don't want to open the center arm rest to turn on my bluetooth every time.

Thanks,

J

memphiskane, will the unit work while it's charging? Can I plug in the headphone jack and usb jack and will it still bluetooth? Does your phone connect whenever you want or do you have push the button on the unit to connect?

Thanks,

J
