  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone thought about or actually installed a remote start?

I am going to try AudioWorks with the Viper VSS3000 system. I like the idea of using my phone since 1) i always have it and 2) i can start the car from more than 1 mile away. Thanks all

I had a Compustar remote starter installed a few weeks ago and now I have a battery drain that I believe is coming from the door locks and the security system. I put a new battery in and the new one drained as well. Does anyone know why this would happen?

There seem to be a lot of negative reviews on the Viper Smart Start online, with many saying the system only works ~10% of the time. That said, this seems to be a software issue that may (or may not) have been corrected since the software was first released...I'd be interested to hear from some other Gensis owners that have had this system for a few months...

Got the Viper SmartStart installed at AudioWorks of Milford, CT.

System seems to work pretty well, although there were a few server issues earlier. It's great to be able to start the car from very far away. Lag from hitting the buttons on the phone to being received by the car is only 3-5 seconds.

Guys at AudioWorks were great--very professional and helpful.

Sounds great. So the smart phone operates the doors and starter? Is there also a key fob? Does the old smart key still work at close range? What's the approximate cost and time to install? Is there any impact on Hyundai warrantees? Maybe you can check back in a few weeks to let us know how its working.

Yes the phone operates the remote start, doors, and trunk. You use the phone to start it, then unlock it. Then u get in and drive away (must have your traditional key fob with you). There is no need for a new fob, although i also purchased a separate small remote start fob which attaches to my Genesis fob as a backup just in case.

Once you use the remote start, you MUST use the phone or remote start fob to unlock the door (genesis key won't work once remote start is activated). I kept both Genesis keys (some remote starts need the chip from the factory fob but not this one). The factory fob works normally when remote start is not activated.

Took them 4-5 hours to install. With additional manual remote start fobs total cost is about 500. Not cheap but being able to start the car while i'm on the train 10 minutes away is worth it.

Living in Central NY a remote starter is an absolute necessity. I have had a remote in my Genesis for a few months now and it works perfectly. It is a Compustar remote starter with an IData-Link interface. You do not need to give up a remote, in fact the only downside is you gain a remote. The total install was approx. $350 and as I said before it works perfectly.

Went to Best Buy to inquire about Viper remote start installation for my 2012 V8.
They refused saying they don't do installation for cars with push start buttons.
I understand that I will need extra hardware to bypass it.
Can anyone recommend a good installation shop in MD/DC/VA area?

Anybody used a bypass besidesthe EVO-ALL?

I went with the DEI Python 991 but also bought their DBALL bypass since it claims to be a CANBUS Integration system. Install was easy, but I'm having all kinds of problems with it.

I'm ready to rip it out and throw it away and replace it with the EVO-ALL.

Am I the only one who's used this or has anybody else had any experience with it?

I may be resurecting a dead thread, but has anyone used this or anything like it:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390706292932?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

It doesn't mention a need for a bypass or sacrificial key fob and seems to be specific to Hyundai vehicles, but list of compatible vehicles goes back into the late-'90s. The best part is it leverages the existing key fob with a triple-press of the lock button to initiate the remote start.

Any thoughts?

Man I wish I knew someone local that I trusted to install this.

At that price, i would be hard pressed to say its good, that looks like any generic unit you can buy at an auto parts store. And that is NOT oem, its just saying that it can use the oem fob but you can do that with most alarm systems but i dont believe that is true for most of the long range units that are on the market today. You wont have long range at all either. I am an MECP certified installer and have installed many alarms. Stick with Compustar or DEI (they make viper, clifford, avital, etc). I had a viper smart start in my last car and i loved it, you have unlimited range so as long as your car is in range of a cell signal, you can access your car even if its in another state. Also, best buy and chain stores are not best for installs, going to a true custom shop is best because an alarm is only as good as the install. An ok thief can tell aftermarket wiring from oem and good installers can make everything look like its supposed to be there. Ive redone work from best buy where the installer put the brain simply under the dash where anyone could simply yank it out and just t-tapped all the wiring where you can see it. A really good alarm install should take about 4-5hrs in all honesty. Free install is gonna be just what you expect especially at a place like best buy where they stack a bunch of installs. I know, i worked there for a short time years ago unfortunately

I had a compustar one way remote starter with Drone app which starts and unlocks/locks the car via GPS from my phone and it works great!

Yes, mine cost about $500 installed as well. I have the 5.O Rspec model.

Think I might like this vs. my BlueLink remote start, hate how long the system takes to respond and it fails every 3-4 starts. Kind of stinks how far behind they are in technology on 2012+ models of the Genesis.

Had the EVO-ALL installed in my 2012 Genesis Push to Start. Had a shop do it (that wasnt familiar with Fortin products, but was sure he could do it). Long story short it is installed, updated and the stand alone remote start function is on, but no matter how many times we try to program it the car will NOT start with three lock presses on my OEM key fob. The Evo-All unit does function properly during the programming and the right lights flash. The tech has been on with Fortin and confirmed everything and it is wired correct and still doesnt start the car. Anyone have any thoughts?
