  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has this happened to you? Note left on car...

You folks go on about how great Hyundai is but the first thing most of you do is go get wings. And don't give me any "that's the badge in Korea" cr*p. That badge is meaningless in America. You're trying to do what Hyundai didn't do...create exclusivity and hide the fact that its a Hyundai. I'm willing to bet the op has wings and the note could be a calliing out of a fact being a fact.

It's all snobbery. When I buy a Genesis (if the ride is right now) I will keep the Hyundai symbol.

I've seen about a dozen Genesis' in MN, and I have only seen 1 with the KDM wings besides mine. Doesn't seem like much of an issue from my observation. I was quite hesitent to put the wings on my car at 1st because I was proud of the fact that I bought a Hyundai product. I changed it just for the sleek look I believe the wings give on this specific vehicle, and the "Holy Hell, what kind of car is that" comment i recieved today at Sherwin Williams was fun. Even better after I told him it was a Hyundai Genesis, he praised how well the car looked and sounded (MagnaFlow exhaust) and the attention to detail the car had.

See I have alot of love for Hyundai. My wife has been honed in on Hyundai for years. In 2005 I bought a TL fror me and an Elantra for her. The TL was in the shop about 8 times in the 1st years for various rattles. Her car was and still is solid as a rock. We still have it and it has been problem free.

If I help Hyundai with thier marketing by letting the general pop know that the big luxurious car I'm driving is a Hyundai...then all the better.

lol

(Depending on the ride being updated of course.) I'm not attacking anyone and I think the badges are cool but would only use them because they are cool rather than to obscure that I'm driving a Hyundai.

Whats wrong with the TL? It seems to me not wise financially to get rid of the TL or any similar car unless there is something wrong with it not covered by warranty. I got rid of an Acura but it was a 2004 with 239,000 miles.

You are right of course. Nothing wrong with the TL at all....that a V8 and 8 spd. tranny wouldn't fix. :)

I think the note was probably some executive at Lexus who thinks he's not really selling Toyotas.

And I'm going to change the trunk badge to the wing because it's my wife's car and she thinks the wing looks cool.

In fact, we get a kick out of telling people we traded her MB for a Hyundai. Of course, now people say "I heard that the Genesis is a great car. Can I check it out?" instead of just "What, what, what?!?"

One dealer we visited changed ALL the trunk badges and installed hood badges on every new Genesis on the lot.

So I've enjoyed my first 2+ months of having my Genesis 4.6 and have drawn some eyes, had a few people ask me about it, the usual. But this is a first for me.

Have any of you had a note on your windshield? Unfortunately, this wasn't a note of praise.

Little background: I park on the rooftop level at Terminal B at IAH, Houston Intercontinental Airport, among a pretty varied mix of people--management, TSA, vendor/concessions employees, wheelchair pushers, and there's an equally diverse mix of cars as you might imagine.

Well, I decided to park off to one of the corners, so that I could angle the car in backwards, give myself a little more room but also doing it without encroaching on any other spots. One of my pet peeves is people taking two spots, which I absolutely NEVER do.

So Friday I came out and had a note in my windshield wiper, written on the back of a convenience store receipt. It said:

No matter how you park your car... it is still a Hyundai!"

LOL! Well, alrighty then. Just funny that someone would take that effort, considering I wasn't in anyone's else's spot. Yes, it's a Hyundai. I'm well aware of that. I'm aware that it lacks some brand cachet in the eyes of many. But I don't care.

The guy who left the note is an a**hole for thinking you even care.

I don't worry about whether my Genesis is better than a Lexus or a BMW. It's a great car, period, and the value is just gravy. Anyone who would lay down $10K - $20K more purely for the name, and it seems as though your pen-pal is one of those, is a fool.

Amen. :)

The guy that wrote that note has no clue about the Genesis. He thinks the driver is just a wannabe. Bottom line is-he's the fool because if he got in and drove a Genesis for a day-he'd be parked beside the OP in the corner of the parking lot-protecting his pride and joy!

i couldn't agree more. and as for the non-owners on here complaining about a ride they have no idea about and take the word of others to spread the BS by bashing the pre '12 suspension, please get over it. If we didn't like the ride of our cars as much as you wish to think, Hyundai wouldn't have sold more each model year. The ride is "subjective" not "objective". what you consider harsh, stiff, i may consider soft (obviously the younger you are the more impact harshness you are not going to notice lol)

"bashing the ride" of pre '12 Genesis? Really? I owned a '10 and I didn't like the ride. I know own a '12 because the ride is much much more to my liking. If that is bashing then I'm guilty...just why do you think Hyundai changed/re-tuned the ride? If you like the ride of the pre '12 Genesis then you are in luck because a new 4.6 loaded can be had in the 37K area and if you don't like the ride then there is the '12 version. The only reason I found this forum was for help with fixing what I thought was a problem (i.e. a too stiff) ride. Sorry If that feels like bashing to you. My guess is that as more '12s are sold fewer people will find this site because they are busy enjoying their cars as opposed to looking for a solution to what was a very real problem. The emperor was partially clad and some of us said so...

Sadly, there was probably a point in time when I would have thought the same way but since owning my Genesis I have never had so many compliments and inquiries about the car.

I live in the Silicon Valley which is filled with countless high-end luxury cars on every street but fortunately I rarely see another Genesis, and haven't ever come across another that has been modified in any way except badging so I guess that garners a lot of attention. These people in their $80K plus cars are staring at my car and circling around it in parking lots so that must say a lot. A day hardly goes by when someone doesn't ask me what it is and the conversation always starts or ends with "Nice car!" They must be doing something right!

Go Hyundai!!!

jastylr your car does look great! I too had many positive comments about my car and even now when I see another Genesis driving down the road I think "WOW what a sharp looking ride"...actually I prefer the look of the pre '12 version except for the new tail lights and grill. The exagerated sides on the new Genesis are a little much for me although certainly not a deal breaker. Its a sweet looking car. I'm on the fence about rebadging. I've got the kit of front and rear wings as well as the wheel caps but not sure if I will ever replace the flying H :)

jastylr just looked at your Genesis Album...Sweet!. Love the quad exhaust! Normally I don't like add on spoilers but yours is done well enough to look "factory". What are the three bumps/buttons on the center of your front bumper? Are they covering holes for a license mount? Finish looks great! Was the sheen achieved by the polish then wax method? tonygxp reported phenomenal results with a polish then wax routine and this sounds right. Is that how you got your car to have such a great shine? My state doesn't require a front license so the dealer never installed the mount but if there were holes there then covering them like you have (as opposed to having them corrected at the body shop $) would be a workable fix.

Thanks @Vince2, I appreciate it! You are right, the 3 holes are from the license plate mount. I'm out in California and we have to have a front license plate but it's a fix-it ticket so I decided to take my chances as I've never been a fan of front plates and feel they detract from the look of the car and it's lines. I've had it this way for about a year without incident so far. I hadn't ever determined how I wanted to handle the holes, have them filled or not, so I just put the screws back in and left it at that for now.

As for the shine on my car, I'm ashamed to say that this is not an accurate representation of the actual finish. While my finish is very nice and I've recently had it fully detailed and polished with 3 coats of wax, what you see in the images is more a result of exposure modifications made in Photoshop when I was cleaning up my digital images. The result of these mods made the car finish look that much better. My paint has the pearl flake in it which you can't tell in these pictures.

Yeah, you know I actually changed my rear badge back in early 2010 and it was only because at the time, I thought it looked cool and would be real unique. Apparently a lot of Genesis owners think the same way as it's no doubt the most popular mod. You may actually be more unique now by leaving the Flying H on.

Unlike what Glashub said about hiding the fact that it's a Hyundai by putting wings on the car, I disagree. I wasn't trying to hide that fact at all. I simply thought it looked nice and wanted it on my car. I'm not ashamed of the manufacturer otherwise I wouldn't own the car. I would have done it on another brand if I liked it as well.

Also, I simply like the fact that nobody knows what kind of car it is. The streets are filled with BMW, Mercedes and Lexus and the Genesis has cues from all of these yet the majority of people don't know what it is and I like it that way. :)

Photoshop! OK, that's powerful software...actually if you look up tonygxp's images of his car (I don't think they've been modified by photoshop) you can see just how absolutely beautiful the finish on our cars can be. The screws in the license mount holes work well. Great car, great mods and I'm waiting to see how well your next set of coilovers work...

If I repeat this 100 times, then it must be true. If you are satisfied with the ride on your car, great! Don't bash everyone that discusses the suspension issues. If Hyundai finally fixed the suspension in 2012, even better!
