  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The inventories of 2015's at the dealers in my area (So California) don't seem to have changed much in the last month or so. And I don't see any Genesis ads. And I still haven't seen one on the road.

Is it just me, or are we in a lull?

I hope you're wrong.... Still haven't seen any 5.0 Ultimates in the Pacific Northwest area yet.

So far I've only seen one white one in my area.

inventories are pretty stagnant, at least according to the Hyundai USA web site. However take this with a grain of salt since its data sometimes is way off, at least when it comes to colors and dealer-installed options. I wouldn't be surprised if the actual vehicle inventory is not updated properly.

Other than at the dealer, I have not seen one on any roads here in the metro Washington D.C. area????

Could this be the reason for the slow down. Recent strike at the Docks in Southern Cal.

Hyundai Motor America has multiple ports of entry on both east and west coast of the US. I don't believe HMA imports at Port of LA or Long Beach (mentioned in the article). The closest Hyundai port to LA is Port Hueneme, near Ventura CA. The also have one in Oregon (and several on east coast).

I have seen quite a few 2015 Genesis ads, mostly on TV sports broadcast. There is a limit to how much they can spend on ads for a car that sells less than 50K units per year (a very optimistic number) when you consider many family sedans sell 10-15 times that number.

For the Genesis, it would be expected that ads would air on shows watched mostly by people who can afford to spend $40-$50K minimum on a car, so don't expect to see Genesis ads on NASCAR or WWE broadcasts. I am not saying that there are not affluent people who watch NASCAR, but the average viewer of a NASCAR race is going to spend less money on a car than average viewer of a golf or tennis broadcast, so it is not usually cost effective to advertise upscale goods on NASCAR etc.

I take it you haven't been to a NASCAR race lately. Quite the expensive trip nowadays. You will spend close to $2000 on a race weekend compared to a few hundred bucks 10 years ago.

They have priced out a lot of the older generation who use to go to every race.

I'm sure you're correct, but I've also been watching individual dealer inventories from three local dealers, and the few 2015's that show up seem to sit around for weeks.

By the way, Mark888, I watch so much golf on TV that my wife thinks I'm crazy:) (maybe she's right). Anyway, if there's been recent Genesis ads, I've missed them.

Just saw a '15 Genesis ad on CNBC 15 minutes after your post. Great advertising demographics.

Many golf tournaments already have specific automobile sponsors that also provide free cars to the players during the week, and offer the obligatory hole-in-one prize, so it is likely to be only specific events such as the following where they are a title sponser:

The other point is that they already spent a fair amount of advertising up front, including a $3 million spot in the Super Bowl, and there is just not going to be a huge amount of advertising on relatively low volume car like Genesis. Hyundai sells close to 4 million vehicles per year worldwide, and very few of them are in the Genesis/Equus class, so that is why they were a big sponsor of this year's FIFA World Cup. Hyundai lives or dies on Sonata/Elantra/Sante Fe sales worldwide, not Genesis or Equus.

Especially good if the market went up that day!!!

OK, I knew this post was coming. People who attend NASCAR races in person "might be" good demographics (although there are no Hyundai "stock" cars in the races and NASCAR fans probably favor American cars in much higher percentages than the general population).

But the people at home who are watching NASCAR on TV, don't fit the demographics for a $40K -$50K car (although maybe they do for a $40K-$50K truck). Even if there are a lot potential Genesis buyers watching NASCAR on TV, Hyundai has to pay for the commercial based on total viewership, which is not skewed to their favor for Genesis demographics compared to some other TV broadcasts.

Jeez guys, I didn't mean to start a detailed discussion on advertising (golf OR NASCAR). It just seems to me the 2015 Genesis certainly isn't moving in the Inland Empire of So Cal, and I was wondering if others see it that way also (if so, why?).

My opinion is that the Genesis is too close in price to MB E and BMW 5, which are being heavily discounted these days. Yes, the Genesis is in reality closer to MB S and BMW 7 in size and features, but most potential Genesis buyers don't need such a large car. When you get into the $40K - $55K MSRP range, people are often buying image, not personal luxury or transportation. There are always exceptions, especially for the members of this forum, but it is going to be a tougher sell to the rest of the public.

If they Hyundai starts heavily discounting the Genesis again, sales will pick up, but they will not be making much money on the cars.

^ That's the kind of discussion I was thinking about, and I'm starting to feel the same way regarding price. My wife got a new Caddy ATS earlier this year, and I'm not sure we would have bought it without the large discounts Cadillac was/is offering. Another point - we're interested in a Genesis with just the Signature package and perhaps a color other than grey or black - really tough to find in our area. I'm starting to lose some of my enthusiasm.

Luckily, we're in no rush. Maybe we'll just wait for more to become available and (hopefully) some significant discounting.

Have not seen a MY15 in the Jacksonville area yet, but am keeping my eyes out! Both dealers in the area have many MY13 and MY 14's still on their lots...prior to selling my MY13, I tried to work with them on a MY14 tech but they would not negotiate...I do get some satisfaction watching their inventory sit...
