  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have you used Service Valet?

My dealer has encouraged me to use Service Valet but I'm not sure if I should.

Have you used it? If so, how was it?

Why wouldn't you??

I don't know how it works or if it's worth my time.

What time? They drop off a loaner and pick up yours, bring it back later. They will come to your work too.

The alternative is to drive to the dealer and sit for an hour or two. Your choice.

The other option is to drive to the dealer, pick up a loaner, and then return to dealer with loaner when they are done.

If you use the service valet, don't be surprised if they are driving your car at 100 MPH and doing 0-60 time trials on the way to and back from the shop. Actually, you may be lucky if they only drive at 100 MPH. One forum member who had a camera and recording device in his car recorded the service manager telling the valet driver to keep it under 100 MPH (which suggests they might not do that if they had their own way).

I have not. I call and schedule the service, drop the car off and pick up a loaner. I prefer to be the one driving the car, even if I am the one who hits 100 MPH. ;) Besides, they are on my way to work so it is not like I have to go out of my way to get there. In addition, it is more on my schedule instead of theirs. They may want to drop the car off earlier than I will be or can be home from work.

This is exact reason I'll drive my car myself to the dealer. Period.

Really? Sure, it can happen, but I know people that do valet driving for a couple of dealers. One was my grandson that did get fired. The others are retired guys making a few extra bucks and are very conservative and capable drivers. Anything CAN happen but is is very unlikely.

Yes, anything can happen and I am sure it doesn't happen every time. But I not sure how you can say it is very unlikely given some of the posts on this forum by people who captured the whole thing on in-car video camera.

Why did you grandson get fired?

A lot of other owners who don't have video or audio recordings, have tracked the mileage and/or GPS location of their car when being serviced, and many of them were astounded as how many miles were racked up, and the various locations visited, during "test drives."

Why did you grandson get fired?

Him and a coworker for speeding. Dealer owned used cars going to auction, not customer cars but yes, he was 21 and dumb.

How many cars get serviced every day? Many thousands. We know of a few instances. Talk to the dealer and ask who is driving. Do as you please, but I'm not really worried about it.

Back in 2015, before BMW publicly announce the all-new G11/12 7-series, BMW USA held an internal preview event for 40-50 locally selected people - basically current flagship sedan/exotic car owners, and I am one of them invited.

BMW rented a house in Beverly Hills to hold the event. The house is on top of the hill with the LA city view in the backyard. Since there is limited parking space, BMW arranged valet service and all guests were required to use it.

I arrived very early so I walked around the house. To my surprise, I saw once the valet drove every guests' vehicles out of people's sight, he started to do WOT, racing and drifting the car, all the way down to the parking lot located down the hill.

There were 2-3 valets, and they all did the same thing for every guest's car (including mine). This really pissed me off. If you also attended the event that night, you might remember hearing engine roaring and tire screeching from somewhere down the hill all the time before the event starts, during the period when majority of guests started to arrive - that's because everyone's car was being beaten up by the valets.

I will never trust any valet to drive my car. Other people might not care, but I do.

We all know how valet drivers handle nice cars. It’s well documented in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. :D
