  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Having covid made me neglect my G70. My G70 is very sad now :(

Yeah I had covid really bad and I spent most my time in my bed for many months while the rats chewed on my G70 in my driveway in the meantime. I brought it to the dealer and they fixed the wires that were chewed on, but it just doesn't run the same anymore. It just sounds like its always having a hard time going. Very depressing. I miss the beast my car once was :(

It can barely go uphill anymore without sounding like it's gonna stall, and it has a very hard time doing anything after 30 minutes of driving.

Any advice? The dealer can't reproduce. But I can...

Sorry to hear of your tough time. Glad you are on the mend.

If you can reproduce the problem, ask the dealer to take a ride with you. Good chance they missed something that shorts out or is not capable of working under load. Or even a connector where they did replace something not making good contact.

Thank Ed. Yeah I tried to tell them how to reproduce it, but they didn't really listen to me. They only drove it less than 10 miles on a freeway, and there aren't any hills there.. After that I told them an easy way to reproduce was to drive it aggressively for a short while.... They said they would not break the law to check the problem.

Sigh.

Yep, I agree with you. I should insist they jump in the car with me............ But in covid times, well crap.

Quite a predicament. I'm not giving up on my G70, no way no how.... I know it can get fixed somehow.

Sorry about your situation.
Hopefully the dealership checked for the nests under the hood. Rats like to build them in the air filter box.
If possible and if you have the means, do an inspection of your intake system for any boost leak and also the vaccum lines while you are at it.
Get well soon.

I would find a good indie mechanic, who will listen to your problems and actually want to fix it.

Exactly what laws do they think you were asking them to break? You didnt ask them to speed, and 'exhibition of speed' usually requires the tires to be broken loose. Sounds like they dont understand the conditions are you asking them to reproduce, or they dont care. Probably they dont care. If it could help, try putting into words they might understand: "a 10% incline and 50% throttle introduces sputtering and a lugging of the engine sensation". Something along those lines. You also mentioned that it happens after driivng for longer than 30 minutes. Can you make an appointment, and make sure a tech is available to hop into the car for a test drive the moment you drop it off.

I suspect the critters have nested/blocked near the air inlet and/or the exhaust and have blocked the flow. I had once parked my truck in my barn awaiting help to move a large load. The little pack rats had removed some wires for their abode. But, the way it sounds to me the car is running rich due to starvation for air on the inlet side and/or cannot get the burned gases out the exhaust. The O2 sensor can only do so much to regulate atmospheric changes and I do hope they did not chew through those wires, but that’s an easy diagnosis and fix. Good luck.

here's a little trick to help avoid critters underhood - slap some stinky Bounce dryer sheets in there. i do this in my and my wife's cars. just strap some dryer sheets onto cooler areas and problem solved. obviously avoid any moving parts or areas that get hot.

my wife had a real critter problem with her toyota highlander. i'd open the hood and find rat crap and nesting material all over the place. there's lots of room under that hood since the hood is high and the V6 is recessed quite a bit. since i started doing this last year, never had a problem. the dealer even commented on it a couple times, saying they tell customers with similar problems to do the same thing.

i also noticed some rat crap under my G70 hood before doing the dryer sheets. now, nothing.

we also do this to deck furniture, etc, when storing them for the winter. works a charm. just don't use the unscented type - it's gotta be that rank "floral fresh" stuff...

This is a covered loss on your auto insurance. Have your adjustor deal with the dealer on repairs while you recoup. If you took it in and they repaired anything wiring wise, that was a VERY bad decision. Rat repairs are always replace the affected section of wiring, if it is serviced, otherwise you replace the next larger section that includes the damaged area up to and including the engine harness asm, main harness asm, taillamp harness asm etc. If repaired correctly the car would throw a code for anything that would create a slow down or loss of power. All wiring replaces should include a total car code scan to verify. Call your insurance company, if you haven't already.

Sounds like this should be resolvable with the above advise. Good to hear you are recovering. Any lasting effects from Covid?

Thank you Slip_Angle ! :)

And... yeah I still have long lasting effects, even after all these months. I just keep reminding myself I did good in life. Got my dream family, dream job and dream car :)

Still love them all ;)

Update:
Unlucky bastard here. haha ;)

I brought my car in to the dealer to get some strange brake noise checked out. Turned out a pebble got into my rear passenger Brembo brake and it mangled my rotor and brake. Got that taken care of. I drove it home and thought that my power issue was resolved that night and I got all excited. The next day I drove it to the grocery store and it started the same crap again.

Yeah, as I said, I will follow all your advice in due time, and let you know.

Thank You :)
