  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, a few days ago somebody ran a red light and totalled my 2012 3.8 with tech package unfortunately. It was easily my favorite car that I've ever owned.

So far in my vehicle search I've found a few potential options:

2009 4.6 with tech package, 69k miles - $9,900
2012 4.6 with tech package, 83k miles - $10,500
2012 5.0 R Spec, 105k miles - $11,000

Are these prices decent? And how is the reliability going into higher miles? I've come across some horror stories and reviews mentioning transmission failures so I'm just trying to be smart about it moving forward.

And insight/input would be greatly appreciated!

Stay away from the 2009 (too old) and the 5.0 (oil consumption risk).

All of those prices look high to me. Offer 25% less and don't come up much.

Notes taken. I appreciate it. I might just have to look into alternative cars as there isn't much within 75 miles it seems, except a few base models without tech package (the Lexicon system is one of my biggest purchasing points).

*sigh*

I had a 2012 R-Spec and that year the transmissions were bad. Lookup info in this forum, there are countless posts about 2012 and early 2013 5.0 L engines with that trans. I went thu one at 50K , and the second one was starting to go at 118K.

I gotcha. I'm torn, I suppose. I see a lot of folks pointing out transmission failures, but I also see people saying they are bulletproof. Though it's been the same with other cars I've been looking into as well (Acura TL, Infiniti G37x, etc).

Other then the trans issue, the car gave me no trouble at all. I have owned three.

I gotcha. I found one in VA, about 2 hours or so from me. 2012 R Spec with 71k miles for 14k, and the dealership has a limited lifetime drivetrain warranty for as long as I would own the car. I'm really interested in it. I have access to transportation so potentially I could wait if necessary, but part of me also really wants the car... So I'm rather torn.

As long as it covers the trans it should be good. I loved that car n only got rid of it because of the trans going again.

I appreciate everybody's input. I think I'm going to hold off for a bit. I've got backup transportation so if I hold off I'll have a bigger down payment and time to find potentially better deals, hopefully closer than 150 miles away lol. Thanks again!
