  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

HDA2 Retrofit for 2023 GV70’s?

One thing that surprised with HDA II was that the car once took evasive action on its own when a car in my blind spot came too close. Not sure exact position of other car but mine sort of moved out of the way but if I recall stayed in the lane I was in. Never repeated but I suspect if lane was free car might move over a whole lane.

I turned off annoying lane keep feature but use the lane following feature of adaptive cruise constantly, HDA II highway or local. Only requirement is car sees painted lines.

The auto lane change feature is definitely useful, bump turn signal car changes 1 lane. Full turn signal car changes multiple lanes.
Car stays well clear of other traffic so very safe.

There are four features in HDA2 that HDA1 doesn't have.

1. Forward cross-traffic safety
2. Driving style based smart cruise control
3. Highway lane change assist
4. Awareness and visualization of vehicles on both sides of the lanes

Forward cross traffic safety: I don't understand this one. HDA only operates when one is driving in ACC mode. But in ACC mode you would be on a divided highway so what would cross=traffic safety entail? A deer crossing the highway?

New version of the HDA chip with added features for Highway Driving Assist.
During the pandemic there was a shortage of the chips so many car makers did not offer it.
What I am curious about is ... Kia managed to keep HDA2 on the EV6 as far as I can tell (I have the 2022 model with it, and haven't seen 2023 owners complaining) - but Genesis couldn't?

Was expecting the situation to be reversed with the premium brand getting priority (and I say this as a potential future Genesis owner)

Seems like you are saying the premium brand should have had priority just because they are premium.

Do you know the entire process? Are the chips identical? Were they ordered and scheduled to run at the same time? Could the Kia chips, not compatible, have been sitting in the warehouse already? What is the supplier lead time?

There are many unknown variables that unless you are knowledgeable of the corporate design and purchasing functions you are just making a WAG.

Lane Following Assist works without using Cruise Control. It works in my ‘22 Tucson, so it likely works in a Genesis.

Sorry to drag this up. I found this thread over the weekend and watched the video.

Just wondering how do I tell if I have the front corner radars?
* not sure if the front sensor in the driver assist in the first pic refers to actual front corner radar or ultrasonic sensors
* seems like I do have forward cross traffic safety
* do have smart cruise control with option "based on safety style"

All these at least in the YouTube video wasn't present before the retrofit.

The fact that you have front cross traffic safety is enough to prove that you have HDA 2 which brings along all those goodies. And no, SCC learns from your driving style apparently

Cheers!
This retrofit might seem like a possible reality afterall
